Itc Leads Pivotals Rally

Pivotals witnessed narrow movements and ended with marginal gains on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday. ITC was in the lead on hectic shortcovering with a record turnover of Rs 1,326.18 crores. Other scrips ended narrowly mixed on restricted support.

The NSE-50 index closed at 1,030.70, a minor gain of 0.90. The dollar NSE-50 (Defty) closed at 909.05, a rise of 0.85. The Midcap closed at 1,167.90, an increase of 9.80. The total turnover was Rs 1,921.52 crores, from 493.99 lakh shares and in 1,36,702 trades. The five most actively traded scrips were

ITC (Rs 1,326.18 crs), RIL (Rs 120.16 crs), Tata Tea (Rs 104.14 crs), SBI-N (Rs 77.29 crs) and ACC (Rs 58.29 crs).

 

Among the other top traded securities were Castrol (Rs 40.27 crs), MTNL (Rs 25.91 crs), Telco (Rs 24.05 crs), Bajaj Auto (Rs 14.99 crs), Ranbaxy (Rs 12.47 crs), Infosys Tech (Rs 9.83 crs), Tisco (Rs 9.08 crs), L&T (Rs 8.22 crs), HLL (Rs 7.96 crs), Bhel (Rs 7.26 crs), Colgate (Rs 6.17 crs), Sterlite (Rs 6.06 crs), Satyam Comp (Rs 6.01 crs), Pentsfware (Rs 4.15 crs), ICICI (Rs 3.16 crs), P&G (Rs 2.94 crs), LML (Rs 2.92 crs), Siemens (Rs 2.33 crs), Wockhardt (Rs 2.33 crs) and Ponds (Rs 2.17 crs).

The top five Nifty gainers were ITC Rs 628.15 (Rs 596.10), MRPL Rs 19.15 (Rs 18.40), TVS Suzuki Rs 452.45 (Rs 443.50), Essar Steel Rs 15.85 (Rs 15.60) and Rel Capital Rs 54.40 (Rs 53.60).

The top five losers were Ashok Leyland Rs 39.05 (Rs 40.40), Ponds Rs 942.70 (Rs 970.15), ABB Rs 495.00 (Rs 507.40), ICICI Rs 73.00 (Rs 74.70) and Rel Capital Rs 221.70 (Rs 226.40).

Meanwhile, equities surged ahead sharply on Over the Counter Exchange of India. The composite index closed at 96.14, an increase of 1.13 points. The total turnover was Rs 3.41 crores, involving 63,161 shares and debentures.

Listed equity contributed Rs 4.91 lakh from 18,900 shares and listed debentures Rs 3.20 crores from 33,961 debentures.

The permitted segment showed a turnover of Rs 17.52 lakh involving 10,300 shares. In the permitted segment, brisk activity was witnessed in RIL where 8,900 shares valued at Rs 14.63 lakh had been transacted.
