Top Industrialists To Attend Davos Summit

Leading Indian industrialists and corporate heavyweights have registered their names for the 26th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum, to be held in Davos from January 30.

The estimated 50-member delegation from India will be led by the Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda. Some of the eminent industrialists who intend to attend the six-day summit are, Anil Ambani of Reliance Industries, Rahul Bajaj of Bajaj Auto Ltd, the Confederation of Indian Industries president Shekhar Dutta, S D Kulkarni of Larsen & Toubro, Vijay Mallya of the UB group, Yogi Deveshwar of ITC, Rajive Kaul of Nicco group and others.

 

One of the corporate delegates told Business Standard: One of the main things of having these annual meetings is to build up a network society. Apart from political and industrial leaders, there will be intellectuals from all streams of academics like science, arts and even politics.

He further added that the industrial delegation from India has always been very strong, and one of the main objectives of going there is to market India.

From the last few years, the summit has been taking notice of Indias presence and this year there will also be a session on the Indian economy on February 1. On February 4, the last day of the summit, there will be a concert of Indian classical music by sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan.

The total strength of delegates attending the summit is expected to be over 1,500 with about 100 political leaders and around 15 heads of countries.

A programme schedule of the summit shows it to be quite exhausting, starting, on an average, at 8 am and ending at about 10 pm every day.

The summit will include workshops, plenary sessions and briefings. The action workshop will deal with business success, global/multicultural and leadership.

A range of topics are to covered in the summits, starting from cancer, new diseases, genetics to astronomy, cyber exch-anges, global warming to world economics history in art central banks and innumerable other topics.

February 2 will be sports day for the recreation of the delegates. The whole schedule will be interspersed with breaks, lunches and sessions over dinner with political leaders.
