Pratt & Whitney to work with IISc for cleaner aircraft engines

Pratt & Whitney (P&W), a United Technologies Corporation company, is establishing an endowment professorship in gas turbine engineering at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore.
Through the endowment chair, P&W will work with the IISc in Bangalore on fundamental and applied research initiatives that support the design and development of more efficient and environment-friendly gas turbine engines. The chair will focus on advanced research in propulsion system technology. P&W's new PurePower PW1000G engine, the firm claims, sets new standards for aircraft engines with double-digit reductions in fuel consumption, emissions of carbon dioxide and oxides of nitrogen, engine noise and operating costs.
