YU launches second handset, mobile health tracking device

YU takes on Xiaomi and Lenovo with metal-bodied Yuphoria in India for Rs 6,999

BS Reporter New Delhi
Micromax, the Gurgaon-based consumer durable company, today launched its second smart phone under its online-only brand – YUPHORIA. Rahul Sharma, founder of YU, also introduced two devices, which will help its users gather instant information and insights on their physical conditions.

HEALTHYU - a health tracker device which if attached with the handset - will display the users ECG, heart rate, blood pressure, respiration rate, body temperature and blood oxygen saturation level (SPO2). According to Sharma, it is a step forward by the company towards creating an ecosystem of its services in the Indian market. The data gathered by the device will eventually get uploaded to the app HEALTHYU’s server and it will, in response, provide necessary help in the form of suggestive measures from physicians and health experts.

The Indian handset-maker has also come out with FITYu which is an activity tracker and will challenge the Xiaomi MI Band, Gooqi and Garmin's different models. Rahul Sharma also took a jibe at Xiaomi during the launch of his own tracker by saying that any activity tracker without a display feels dead and unfriendly. The MI Band was launched recently with the same price proposition as the FITYu but sports no display and is a tad smaller than it.

YU has sold more than 5 lakh handsets since its launch in December last year. YU is a subsidiary of Micromax, which sells devices exclusively through the online marketplace amazon.com in India.
