London's mayor has officially opened a spacious new square in front of London's King's Cross station, known to Harry Potter fans across the world as the home of the fictional Platform 9 ¾.
	The tree-studded square, unveiled today, replaces a green metal canopy which had long marred the view of the Victorian railway station.
	King's Cross dates back to the 1850s and handles some 47 million passengers annually. In J K Rowling's Harry Potter books, student wizards use a secret platform at the station to board the train for Hogwarts school.
	The makeover is part of a wider redevelopment of King's Cross and its surroundings. Once known as a seedy red-light district, the area around the station is being turned into upscale apartments and offices, including Google's new London headquarters.

Indian folk-rock band Indian Ocean was today named as the headline act for this year's London International Arts Festival (LIAF).
	The annual event, to be held in early November, brings together international, national, regional and local performers across diverse musical genres like jazz, classical, folk and contemporary.
	"I want to build on the success of last year's first ever LIAF, where we had 7,000 people attend our festival, and 2013 sees us working with award-winning artists and musical legends, as well as emerging artists," said Jyotsna Srikanth, an Indian violinist and curator of LIAF.
	"This year's festival promises to be a magical journey and a wonderful insight for Londoners into the delights the international arts scene has to offer."
	The festival, held between November 2 and 10 at venues across London like the Rich Mix Theatre and Kenneth More Theatre, is organised by Dhruv Arts, which was formed in 2004 to promote South Asian music, dance and storytelling.

Indian Ocean heads line-up at London arts festival

The Service Tax department has registered a case against stand-up comedian Kapil Sharma for alleged non-payment of tax dues amounting to nearly Rs 60 lakh.
	"We have filed a case against him for not remitting the tax amount that he used to collect from organisers of his programme," an official said today.
	However, despite repeated attempts, Sharma was not available for comments.
	According to the official, the tax liability was around Rs 60 lakh.
	Also, he was questioned yesterday in this connection and is likely to be called again, the official said.
	"If he doesn't pay, then we will have to initiate proceedings against him," the official said.
	Yesterday, a massive fire broke out on the sets of Sharma's show 'Comedy Nights With Kapil' at Goregaon Film city here. However, there was no casualty in the mishap.
	The show, aired on Colors channel, is hosted by Sharma and often sees big Bollywood names using the platform to promote their upcoming films.

	Vidya will be seen in Dia Mirza's home production film to be made under their banner Born Free Entertainment.
	"I am thrilled to be lady James Bond. The film will mark the arrival of India's first lady detective and I am quite happy to be part of it. James Bond has become synonymous with 007... His gun and we will surely try to come up with something different and innovative," Vidya told PTI.

Veteran actress Kamini Kaushal, who was honoured with the Kalpana Chawla excellence award, wished her "Aarzo" co-star Dilip Kumar a speedy recovery.
	The 90-year-old actor was recharged today after spending more than a week in hospital following a mild heart attack.
	"I am honoured to have Kalpana Chawla excellence award for my contribution in Indian Cinema and I have worked with almost every actor including Shahrukh Khan in 'Chennai Express'.

Malayalam movie 'Kanyaka Talkies', directed by national award-winning documentary filmmaker K R Manoj, has been selected in the competition section of the 15th Mumbai International Film Festival, to be held from October 17 to 24.
   The film was chosen for the 'India Gold' section by a jury chaired by eminent director Shyam Benegal.
   It would also be presented at the Mumbai film mart, where select films from the country are introduced to global film distributing companies.

Amid criticism over the selection of 'The Good Road' as India's official entry to the Oscars, the Gujarati film's Academy award-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty has come forward in defence of the movie.
	The selection of 'The Good Road' starring Sonali Kulkarni, Poonam Kesar Singh, Ajay Gehi among others, was not welcomed by many in Bollywood.
	Rather the B-town felt Ritesh Batra's "The Lunchbox", which is produced by Anurag Kashyap and presented by Karan Johar, was a more befitting choice.
	"I haven't seen 'The Lunchbox'. That movie may be a better film than 'The Good Road'. As far as I see about the criticism, the director (Gyan Correa) is a debutante and the protagonist and surrounding characters are non-actors.

	The 21-year-old American model, who will be in India for 10 days, will promote and propagate issues like celebrating girl child, women empowerment and AIDS awareness in various states of India.

	The drummer was handed the award by France's ambassador to Monaco, Hugues Moret.

'Breaking Bad' star Bryan Cranston is all set to reprise his role as Ted Mosby's boss Hammond Druthers in the upcoming episode of 'How I Met Your Mother'.
