Mahindra expands Chennai research valley with ₹196 crore investment

Automaker to invest ₹196 crore in expanding Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai, adding advanced R&D and testing facilities and creating 2,000 jobs this year

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd on Thursday announced the expansion of its Advanced Research and Development Centre and additional testing facilities at Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai, with a fresh investment of around ₹196 crore.

 

The expansion, aimed at strengthening Mahindra’s engineering, product development and testing capabilities, is expected to be operational within the current calendar year and create employment opportunities for about 2,000 additional professionals across engineering, research and technical roles.

 

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin and Industries Minister T R B Rajaa attended the ceremony for the expanded facility. Mahindra said the move reinforces Chennai’s position as a strategic hub for automotive research and innovation and aligns with its focus on Make in India.

 

 

The upgraded infrastructure will support advanced vehicle design, product engineering and development of next-generation platforms across multiple vehicle segments. Once completed, the expansion will augment MRV’s role as Mahindra’s global R&D and innovation hub.

 

MRV, spread over 125 acres, currently employs around 5,000 skilled professionals and serves as the company’s core research centre for its automotive and farm equipment businesses.

 

Speaking at the event, R Velusamy, president – automotive business, Mahindra & Mahindra, said the expansion reflects the company’s long-term commitment to strengthening India-based product engineering capabilities and enhancing global competitiveness.
