Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bat first against Chennai Super Kings in a clash where both teams have named unchanged line-ups at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh on Tuesday.

Explaining the decision, Iyer said, “We are going to have a bat first, it's simply because we had a discussion how our batting lineup is and we need to make the best use of it. In the last game, the dew wasn't that much but that's not in our control. We need to back our strengths.” He also emphasised the importance of using their spin options effectively, noting that the previous match did not offer much turn but credited the Rajasthan batters for their performance.
Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad admitted he would have opted to bat as well. “Pretty dry wicket, new conditions for us and we need to adapt as soon as possible,” he said. While highlighting areas for improvement, Gaikwad pointed to the high economy rate in some overs and fielding lapses. “Me batting at 3 gives a bit more balance to our squad,” he added, expressing confidence in the team’s openers.
Pitch report
Daren Ganga and Michael Clarke noted that the match is being played on a new pitch slightly east of the previous one. “The boundary dimensions have changed,” they said, highlighting a 69-metre square boundary and 74 metres down the ground. The surface appears similar to the one used on Saturday, with some dry patches but overall consistent for both batting and bowling. Clarke stressed the importance of bowling length. “Overpitch and it’s easy to drive; too short and it sits up. The top of a good length is key,” he said.
