The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the final results for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2024 on Tuesday. This year, Shakti Dubey secured the top position in the exams, with Harshita Goyal following in second place, according to the results published by the Commission.
Dubey, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Allahabad, cleared the examination with political science and international relations as her optional subject. Goyal, ranked second, is a Bachelor of Commerce graduate from MS University of Baroda, and also opted for political science and international relations.
Third ranker Parag, a BTech graduate in electrical and electronics engineering from Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Tamil Nadu, chose philosophy as his optional subject. The fourth position was secured by Shah Margi Chirag, a computer engineering graduate from Gujarat Technological University, Ahmedabad, with sociology as her optional. Fifth-ranked Aakash Garg, who pursued BTech in computer science from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi, also chose sociology.

1,009 candidates will be recommended for appointment
A total of 1,009 candidates — 725 men and 284 women — have been recommended for appointment to various civil services. These include 335 candidates from the general category, 109 from the economically weaker sections (EWS), 318 from other backward classes (OBC), 160 from scheduled castes (SC), and 87 from scheduled tribes (ST).
The marks obtained by candidates will be published on the UPSC website within 15 days from the date of the result declaration.
More than 900,000 appeared for UPSC exams
The registration process for the exam began on February 14 and concluded on March 5, 2024.
The examination, held in three stages — preliminary, mains, and interview — began with 992,000 applications. Of these, 583,000 candidates appeared for the prelims in June 2024. A total of 14,627 cleared the preliminary round to sit for the mains held in September. From that pool, 2,845 candidates advanced to the personality test, which took place between January 7 and April 17 this year.
The final list includes 45 persons with benchmark disabilities, covering various categories such as orthopaedic, visual, hearing, and multiple disabilities. The commission also released a reserve list comprising 230 candidates. The candidature of 241 individuals remains provisional, and the result of one candidate has been withheld.
1,129 vacancies to be filled
According to UPSC, 1,129 vacancies are to be filled through this recruitment process. These include 180 positions in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), 55 in the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and 147 in the Indian Police Service (IPS). Additionally, 605 vacancies are for Central Services Group ‘A’ and 142 for Group ‘B’ Services.
How to check UPSC Civil Services Exam 2024 results
The UPSC Civil Services Personality Test (Interview) was conducted for 2,845 candidates from January 7 to April 17. The interviews were held in two sessions: the first at 9 am and the second at 1 pm. Candidates who qualified in the main examination were eligible to appear for the interview round.
The result document lists the names of candidates selected for appointment.
