Stock Market Highlights, Thursday, December 26, 2024: Benchmark equity indices, the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50, ended Thursday's choppy session on a flat note. The 30-share Sensex settled at 78,472.48, down marginally by 0.39 points, after trading in the range of 78,898.37 to 78,173.38.
Similarly, on the NSE, the Nifty50 settled at 23,750.20, up 22.55 points, or 0.1 per cent, from its previous close on Thursday. The Nifty50 reached a day's high of 23,854.50 and a day's low of 23,653.60.
31 out of the 50 constituent stocks of the Nifty50 ended in the green, led by Adani Ports, Shriram Finance, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki India, and SBI Life Insurance Company, with gains extending up to 5.22 per cent. Conversely, Titan, Asian Paints, Grasim, JSW Steel, and Tata Consumer Products were among the 18 stocks that ended in the red, with losses extending up to 1.17 per cent. Notably, Infosys was the only constituent stock of the Nifty50 that ended on a flat note.
Among the broader markets, the Nifty Midcap100 ended higher by 0.12 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap100 ended down by merely 0.02 per cent. Sectoral indices, on the other hand, ended on a mixed note. Nifty Auto, Pharma, Financials, PSU Bank, Realty, and Healthcare indices ended higher by up to 0.84 per cent. In contrast, FMCG, IT, Metal, Private Bank, and Media were among the sectoral indices that ended in the red, with losses of up to 1.46 per cent.

The 200-DSMA is currently placed near 23,855, which will act as an immediate hurdle for the index. A sustainable move above 23,855 will push the index further higher to 24,000-24100 levels. On the downside, 23,500 serves as immediate support. In the short term, the index is expected to consolidate within the 23,500–23,850 range, with a breakout on either side determining its future trajectory.

Stock Market LIVE Updates: Nifty opened on a positive note but remained sluggish throughout the day before closing slightly higher at 23,750. The volatility index, India VIX, surged by 6.50 per cent to 14.04, indicating increased market volatility. Technically, Nifty has been attempting to cross the 200-Day Simple Moving Average (200-DSMA) hurdle over the last three sessions but has been unable to sustain above it, forming a small red candle.
The 200-DSMA is currently placed near 23,855, which will act as an immediate hurdle for the index. A sustainable move above 23,855 will push the index further higher to 24,000-24100 levels. On the downside, 23,500 serves as immediate support. In the short term, the index is expected to consolidate within the 23,500–23,850 range, with a breakout on either side determining its future trajectory.
