Linda Yaccarino has announced her decision to step down as CEO of X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, after serving in the role for two years. In a message shared on Wednesday, Yaccarino reflected positively on her time at the company and expressed optimism about its future, especially as it evolves alongside Musk’s artificial intelligence venture, xAI — the developer behind the chatbot Grok.
In her post, she added, "X is truly a digital town square for all voices and the world’s most powerful culture signal. We couldn’t have achieved that without the support of our users, business partners, and the most innovative team in the world. I’ll be cheering you all on as you continue to change the world." Reacting to her resignation post, Musk wrote, “Thank you for your contributions.”
After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of ????. When @elonmusk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company. I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me…

Linda led key innovations
Yaccarino, a seasoned advertising executive, was brought on board in May 2023, several months after Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion in late 2022 and later rebranded it as X. At the time of her appointment, Musk had indicated that Yaccarino would oversee business operations, while he would continue to focus on product innovation and technological development. During her tenure, Yaccarino was instrumental in advancing key product transformations and broadening the platform’s strategic direction. Under her leadership, X expanded its focus to include live video content, collaborations with creators, digital payments, and even integration with connected TV applications. The visibility of features like Community Notes increased, while new offerings such as X Money — a digital payment service — were launched as part of efforts to evolve the platform beyond traditional social networking.
