Air India adds 7 regional languages to enhance customer support services

Air India on Tuesday said it has enhanced its customer support services by adding seven new languages to its IVR system, including Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, and Malayalam, besides the existing English and Hindi. IVR (Interactive Voice Response) system will now automatically recognise the customer's language preference based on the user's mobile network, eliminating the need to manually choose a language, and thereby reducing the response time, the airline said in a statement. The seven languages that have been in the airline's round-the-clock customer support services are Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu, the statement said. Air India has recently set up five new contact centres, offering round-the-clock assistance to its customers worldwide with dedicated desks for premium and frequent flyers. Special assistance in Indian languages to Air India customers will be available from 0800 am to 2300 pm, every day, the airline said.

Bomb threat scare on Air India flight from Mumbai a hoax, say police

A bomb threat message in the washroom of an AI flight from Mumbai that resulted in a full emergency being declared at the Thiruvananthapuram airport here on Thursday turned out to be a hoax according to the police. A senior officer of the Thiruvananthapuram city police said the threat was a hoax. The police also said that no explosive was found on the aircraft after an intensive search carried out by security agencies. The emergency declared at the airport in the morning was withdrawn around 12.10 pm, airport sources said, adding that all the 135 passengers who travelled on the flight were permitted to leave at 12.45 pm. Police have launched an investigation into the incident. Earlier in the morning, the pilot of the aircraft informed the ATC about the threat after a 'Bomb in flight' message, written on a tissue paper, was found in the washroom of the plane, the sources said. Air India begins offering wireless inflight entertainment service

Air India on Wednesday said it has started providing wireless inflight entertainment service in its existing wide body aircraft till completion of retrofit. Many passengers have been complaining about glitches and non-functional inflight entertainment systems in some aircraft of the Tata Group-owned airline, which is in the process of retrofitting its old fleet and inducting new planes. The new inflight entertainment service 'Vista', which was recently introduced in its existing wide body fleet, will also be made available in narrow body planes. It will not be available in the newly-inducted B777 and A350 aircraft, according to a release. Vista has been introduced in the existing wide body fleet to provide customers with uninterrupted entertainment until the retrofit, it added. Air India's new wide-body planes have a new inflight entertainment system. The airline has an operational fleet of 140 aircraft. Air India cabin crew assaulted at London hotel, airline begins probe

A female cabin crew member of Air India was allegedly assaulted by an intruder at a London hotel earlier this week, according to sources. The airline is pursuing the matter with the local police. In a statement, an Air India spokesperson said it was "deeply anguished by an unlawful incident of intrusion at a hotel, operated by a major international chain, that affected one of our crew members". Sources in the know said a homeless man barged into the room at the hotel where the female cabin crew was staying and assaulted her. As she shouted, others staying nearby came and rescued her and the person was caught, they added. One of the sources said the cabin crew was allegedly sexually assaulted at the hotel while two other sources claimed it was a physical assault. Mumbai-bound AI flight suffers bird-hit at Goa airport, take-off aborted

An Air India flight with 116 passengers on board, which was about to depart from the Dabolim airport in Goa for Mumbai, had to abort its take-off due to a bird-hit on Wednesday morning, a senior official said. The incident took place at 6.45 am. Due to the bird-hit, smoke started emanating from the aircraft's engine following which the flight take-off was aborted, airport director M C Jayarajan told reporters in Vasco. The air traffic controller reported the incident to senior authorities, he said. The flight with 116 passengers on board was scheduled for Mumbai from the Goa International Airport at Dabolim, located near Vasco in South Goa, the official said. "The take-off was aborted immediately and the aircraft is parked in the bay for further investigation," he said. The Dabolim airport is a part of INS Hansa base of the Indian Navy. Three flights were diverted at the Delhi airport on Sunday due to bad weather, according to an official. Various parts of the national capital witnessed heavy rains on Sunday. Aviation regulator DGCA has approved integrating the aircraft line maintenance operations of Air India and Vistara as the two airlines move close to their merger. In a release on Friday, Air India said the integration will help in optimising resources to enhance operational performance and reduce aircraft turnaround times to bolster on-time performance. "With a unified maintenance team and resources, Air India will be better positioned to service a mixed fleet of wide body and narrow body aircraft, enhancing schedule integrity and reliability of operations," it added. The two airlines, part of the Tata Group, have secured the CAR (Civil Aviation Requirement) 145 approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to integrate their aircraft line maintenance operations. Air India suspends Tel Aviv flights till further notice as tension soars

Air India on Friday announced suspension of flights to and from Tel Aviv till further notice amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran. The Tata Group-owned carrier had suspended services from the national capital to Tel Aviv till August 8. "In view of the current situation in parts of the Middle East, scheduled operation of our flights to and from Tel Aviv are suspended with immediate effect until further notice.
