Andhra police book ex-CM Jagan, 2 IPS officers in 'attempt to murder' case

Andhra Pradesh police registered an "attempt to murder" case against former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, two senior IPS officers and two retired officials, following a complaint lodged by a TDP MLA, an official said on Friday. The complaint was lodged by the ruling party's Undi MLA K Raghurama Krishna Raju, who was a YSRCP Lok Sabha MP between 2019 and 2024 but had a fallout with Reddy at an early stage. Besides Reddy, police booked senior IPS officers PV Sunil Kumar and PSR Sitaramanjaneyulu and retired police officer R Vijay Paul and former Guntur Government General Hospital superintendent G Prabhavati, the official said. Vijay Paul and Prabhavati have superannuated. "Raju sent his police complaint through mail one month ago and after taking legal opinion, I registered a case at 7 pm on Thursday against the former CM and others," the official told PTI. The Congress on Thursday claimed that the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014 was implemented by the Modi government at a "lackadaisical pace" but with Prime Minister Narendra Modi having "lost majority" on his own, a rapid implementation of the legislation can be expected. Congress general secretary, in-charge communications, Jairam Ramesh's assertion came over a media report which claimed that the Centre has acceded to a major demand of setting up an oil refinery and petrochemical hub in Andhra Pradesh with an investment of over Rs 60,000 crore. BPCL ready to invest Rs 1 trn in Andhra Pradesh: Industries minister Bharat

Andhra Pradesh Industries Minister TG Bharat on Wednesday said Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) is ready to invest Rs 1 lakh crore in the state, which could include the setting up of an oil refinery. The Industries Minister accompanied a BPCL delegation led by its chairman and managing director G Krishna Kumar to meet Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at the Secretariat in Amaravati on Wednesday. According to Bharat, BPCL officials told Naidu that the company is ready to invest massively in the state and discussed primarily about setting up an oil refinery. "BPCL is ready to invest Rs 1 lakh crore in the state. Initially, it will invest between Rs 50,000 crore and Rs 75,000 crore," said Bharat in an official press release. IMD predicts thunderstorms for parts of Andhra Pradesh for five days

The India Meteorological Department on Sunday predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in parts of Andhra Pradesh from July 7 to 11. Thunderstorms are expected in parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) and Rayalaseema. "The cyclonic circulation over the west central Bay of Bengal off the south Andhra Pradesh coast persists and is now seen at 5.8 km above mean sea level," said the Met Department in a press release. Specifically on Sunday, the department forecast the possibility of heavy rain in parts of NCAP and Yanam. Strong winds up to the speed of 40 km per hour (kmph) have been predicted in the rain-affected places for two days from Sunday.

Thanking the people for protesting against his arrest in September last year, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday said the Telugu Desam Party will soon regain its past glory in Telangana also. Andhra, Telangana CMs to meet to discuss pending inter-state issues

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and his Telangana counterpart A Revanth Reddy will meet here on Saturday to resolve pending issues related to bifurcation of undivided Andhra. The meeting will take place at the government's Mahatma Jyoti Rao Phule Praja Bhavan here this evening. Telangana came into existence on June 2, 2014, following the division of undivided Andhra Pradesh.
