Maruti Suzuki Swift crosses 2.5 million cumulative sales milestone

The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Tuesday said its premium hatchback Swift has crossed 25 lakh cumulative sales milestone in over 16 years of its launch in the country. The model, which was the country's leading model in terms of sales in the last fiscal, has transcended its records by clocking cumulative sales of 2.5 million units, MSI said in a statement. Swift had created the premium hatchback segment in the country with its launch in 2005. Automakers expect better festive season even as chip shortage lingers on

Leading automakers Maruti Suzuki, Toyota Kirloskar Motor and Mahindra & Mahindra expect sales to be better this festive season compared to last year even as the chip shortage continues to make situation challenging with companies struggling to sustain production schedules. The festive season, which began with Onam, culminates with Diwali celebrations in November. Automakers have witnessed robust demand so far and are now looking to spruce up supplies to dealers in order to serve customers during the peak of festive period in October. "At the moment demand looks ok. It is slightly better than last year. If we look at the bookings, enquiries, retails, these are robust. Hyundai launches 'i20 N Line' in India starting at Rs 9.84 lakh

Hyundai Motor India Ltd on Thursday launched its motorsports inspired 'i20 N Line' priced between Rs 9.84 lakh and Rs 11.76 lakh (ex-showroom). Powered by a 1-litre turbo petrol engine delivering power of 88.3 kW, the Hyundai i20 N Line has been introduced in N6 and N8 variants, the company said in a statement. Piaggio India launches new superbikes; prices start from Rs 13.09 lakh

Piaggio India on Thursday launched a new range of superbikes, including Aprilia RS 660, Tuono 660, Aprilia RSV4, Tuono V4 as well as the iconic Moto Guzzi V85TT. The prices of the new superbikes start from Rs 13.09 lakh and go up to Rs 23.69 lakh, Piaggio India said in a release. Piaggio India, the maker of premium Vespa scooter, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Italian auto major Piaggio Group. The bikes will be available for customers across all its Motoplex dealerships pan-India, it said. "The newly-launched superbikes have attracted a massive following in India and all over the world. Suzuki Motorcycle's total sales up 27% in August at 73,463 units

Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL) on Wednesday reported a 27 per cent increase in total sales at 73,463 units in August 2021. The company had sold 57,909 units in the same month last year, SMIPL said in a statement. Domestic sales in August were at 61,809 units while exports stood at 11,654 units, it added. Commenting on the sales performance, SMIPL Managing Director Satoshi Uchida said, "With the unlock phase, the two-wheeler industry is now marching towards normalcy while continuing to adhere to all the precautionary measures. Honda reports 49% increase in domestic sales at 11,177 units in August

Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) on Wednesday reported a 49 per cent increase in domestic sales at 11,177 units in August as compared with the same month last year. The company had sold 7,509 units in the domestic market in August 2020, HCIL said in a statement. Exports stood at 2,262 units last month as compared with 450 units in August 2020, it added. "Positive sales momentum and overall strong demand helped us to achieve good volumes with the onset of the festive season. The celebratory fervour which began with Onam in Southern India will extend to the rest of the markets as we move towards the peak of festivities," HCIL Senior Vice President and Director (Marketing & Sales) Rajesh Goel said. Mahindra's domestic passenger vehicle sales up 17% in August

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) on Wednesday reported a 17 per cent increase in domestic passenger vehicle sales at 15,973 units in August as compared to the same month last year. The company had sold 13,651 units in August 2020, M&M said in a statement. In the commercial vehicles segment, the company sold 11,432 vehicles in the domestic market last month, as against 15,606 units in the same month last year, a drop of 27 per cent. Exports increased to 3,180 units last month as against 1,169 units in the year-ago month. "Demand across our product portfolio continues to remain strong with Thar, XUV 300 and our recently launched Bolero Neo and our Bolero Pik-up range clocking in impressive booking numbers. Tata Motors reports 53% increase in domestic sales in August

Tata Motors on Wednesday said its total domestic wholesales increased by 53 per cent to 54,190 units in August as compared to the same month last year. The company had sold 35,420 units in August 2020. The auto major said its passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market stood at 28,018 units in August, up 51 per cent as compared to 18,583 units in the same month last year. Commercial vehicle sales in the domestic market stood at 29,781 units, up 66 per cent from 17,889 units in August 2020, it added. The auto major noted that semiconductor shortage continues to impact the auto industry globally. The recent lockdowns in East Asia have worsened the supply situation and hence Tata Motors is forced to moderate production and offtake volumes in the coming months, it said.
