Hindustan Power has signed an agreement with the Assam government to invest Rs 620 crore to set up solar and battery storage projects. The investment will drive the development of a 100 MW solar power plant alongside a battery energy storage system, the company said in a statement on Monday. The company said it will invest Rs 500 crore for the solar plant and another Rs 120 crore for the battery storage facility. "Hindustan Power was the first company to develop a large solar power plant in Assam in 2016, and the company remains committed to driving the state's journey of growth in the new era of renewable energy," the company's chairman Ratul Puri said. Epsilon Group on Wednesday announced its plan to invest Rs 15,350 crore in developing a manufacturing and research facility for EV battery testing and advanced materials in Karnataka. Lithium-ion battery recycling and refurbishing firm LICO Materials on Friday announced the inauguration of a battery recycling facility in Bengaluru and said it will invest Rs 250 crore in its downstream hydrometallurgy plant in next two-three years. The 4 GWh per annum in-feed capacity plant in Bengaluru will address the challenges of securing a stable supply of critical materials and contribute to India's ambition of achieving 30 per cent electric vehicle (EV) adoption by 2030, LICO said. The government will soon invite bids for 10 gigawatt of battery energy storage projects, an official said on Friday. The move will strengthen India's position in the energy storage segment, which is in a developing stage. Vijay Mittal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries, said, "The ministry will soon come out with a 10 gigawatt RFP (request for proposal) for those who are working on the energy storage part of it for grid-scale energy storage systems...so that we have...indigenous capability for manufacturing of battery energy storage system compatible with advanced chemistry cells."
