The AAP on Tuesday targeted the Centre over the Delhi services bill passed by Parliament and said the people of the national capital will give a "befitting reply" to the BJP in the upcoming elections. Centre creating obstacles in Kerala's development: CM Vijayan in Assembly

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday accused the Centre of creating obstacles in the state's development by its various policies like considering loans taken by KIIFB as debt of the state. Speaking in the Assembly, the Chief Minister alleged that the Centre was arbitrarily adding loans taken by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) to that of the state, resulting in reduction of the borrowing limits of the government. The response from Vijayan in the House came while answering a query regarding projects being funded by KIIFB and their status. He also gave details of the extensive funding of numerous projects in the state across various sectors like infrastructure, roads, fisheries, education and coastal area development among others. The Chief Minister further said that development projects that the state intends to carry out will be done by the government despite "hurdles" created by the Centre. Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri on Monday demanded the Arvind Kejriwal government conduct a survey for issuing new ration cards. The BJP leader claimed that no new cards were provided to the people in the national capital in the last eight years. Over 3 lakh people have already applied for ration cards in Delhi and poor families are waiting for it for many years, he said. "Since the formation of the Kejriwal government, no new ration cards have been issued in Delhi for the past eight years, leaving more than three lakh people waiting for their ration cards. "The Delhi High Court has also recently ordered an inquiry into this matter," Bidhuri said. The government has not conducted any survey so far, so there is no data on the total number of ration cards in Delhi, he said. The Delhi government, in a statement, said that the distribution of ration in the city has been going on smoothly and the distribution figure for the last few months is about 100 per .

Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Monday slammed the BJP after Parliament passed the contentious Delhi services bill, asking what moral authority does the party have to pass such a bill that "reduces the Delhi government to a municipality". Parliament on Monday passed the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, that gives the central government control over bureaucrats in the Delhi government with the Rajya Sabha approving it with 131 votes in favour and 102 against. In a tweet, Chidambaram said, "Both House have passed the GNCTD Amendment Bill. The Bill should be rightly titled the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Appointment of Viceroy) Bill." Both "representative government" and "parliamentary democracy" have been "jettisoned" by the bill, the former home minister said. The BJP that has not won the confidence and support of the people of Delhi in six elections over a period of 25 years has pushed through the bill, ...

Gogoi questioning jurisprudence of Constitution's structure shocking: Cong

The Congress on Monday said former CJI and Rajya Sabha MP Ranjan Gogoi "questioning the jurisprudence of the basic structure of the Constitution" was "shocking". The party asked if this was the "BJP's trick" to begin the "full-fledged dismantling" of the Constitution. The Congress' attack on the ruling party came after Gogoi, while participating in the debate on the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, said, "There is a book by (TR) Andhyarujina, the former solicitor general, on the Kesavananda Bharati case." "Having read the book, my view is that the doctrine of the basic structure of the Constitution has a very debatable jurisprudential basis. I would not say anything more than this," the former chief justice of India said. Reacting to his remarks made in Rajya Sabha, Congress general secretary in-charge organization K C Venugopal said, "Shocking that a former CJI questions the jurisprudence of the basic structure of the Constitution." Freedom of speech cannot be used as armour for abuse: Naqvi salms Rahul

A day after the Supreme Court stayed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's conviction in a defamation case, senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi took a swipe at him on Saturday, saying freedom of speech cannot be used as an "armour for abuse". Gandhi on Friday got a huge relief from the Supreme Court after it stayed his conviction in a 2019 criminal defamation case over his Modi surname remark and paved the way for his reinstatement as a Lok Sabha MP. The stay which will also enable Gandhi, 53, to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was given on the grounds the the trial court in Surat in Gujarat failed to explain why he deserved the maximum two-year punishment upon his conviction that led to his disqualification from the Lower House of Parliament. Speaking with reporters here, Naqvi said those notorious for nuisance should not misuse their freedom of speech as an armour for abuse. Some people are celebrating even as their leader has made his freedom of voice a "license for freestyle ..

BJP appoints firebrand leader Kapil Mishra Delhi unit vice-president

Nearly four years after he switched to the BJP, former AAP minister and firebrand leader Kapil Mishra was on Saturday appointed as vice-president in the party's Delhi unit. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said Mishra's name was on the list of the new office-bearers of the party announced earlier this week but it could not be declared due to some reason. Mishra was formerly a minister in the AAP government here, but he joined the BJP in August 2019 after his differences with party supremo Arvind Kejriwal became public. Known for his "fiery" speeches on Hindutva ideology, his name had also surfaced in connection with the northeast Delhi riots for allegedly making hate speeches. He was accused of "instigating" people by asking them to forcibly remove those sitting in protest at Jafrabad against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Over 50 people were killed and hundreds injured in the February 2020 riots. Mishra was not given any organisational responsibility in the Delhi BJP since h
