Govt to set up ITBP's intelligence gathering posts along China border

Border posts of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) along the India-China frontier from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh will have an additional team of intelligence officers for surveillance and information gathering. A highly placed source said the central government has approved a proposal for establishing the set-up that will be known as the Border Intelligence Post (BIP). The move bears significance in view of the increased Chinese activities along the border and transgressions by China's People's Liberation Army (PLA). A stand-off between the Indian Army and the PLA in Ladakh has been going on since June 2020. Each of the BIPs will be manned by four-five officials of the Intelligence Bureau and protected by ITBP personnel, the source in the know of the development said on the condition of anonymity. Security forces recover firearms, ammunition during search ops in Manipur

Security forces recovered four firearms, 38 ammunition and eight bombs from Manipur's Imphal East and Imphal West districts during search operations, police said. Search operations were conducted in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal East, Imphal West, Kakching, Kangpokpi and Thoubal districts during which security forces recovered firearms, ammunition and bombs, a statement issued by the Manipur Police Control Room said on Thursday night. The statement said "during the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was tense with sporadic incidents of congregation of protestors." A total of 123 'nakas' (checkpoints) were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and valley and police detained 1,581 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state, the statement said. Floodwater submerges several BSF posts along border in Punjab's Ferozepur

Several BSF outposts and the barbed wire fencing along the India-Pakistan border have been inundated in Punjab's Ferozepur district due to a rise in the Sutlej's water level, an official said on Sunday. Border Security Force (BSF) troops are keeping a close watch on the situation, the official said. Many villages near the International Border in Ferozepur bore the brunt of the swollen Sutlej, forcing residents of flood-hit areas to move to safer locations. Manipur violence: BSF men to be deployed in village where 3 were killed

Two armed groups come face to face in Manipur, security forces deescalate

Security forces thwarted clashes in Manipur's Kangpokpi district where two armed groups gathered and fired a few rounds, sources said on Thursday. The incident happened around 3.40 pm on Wednesday near Phaileng village, they said. Armed groups from Mapao and Awang Sekmai areas gathered in the area, escalating the tensions, they added. A few rounds were fired, but soon personnel of the Assam Rifles reached the area and brought the situation under control. Sources said women, however, blocked the roads to prevent the forces from reaching the area. In Churachandpur, a large number of Kukis staged a protest. The rally started at Public Ground and continued till Tuibong Peace Ground. Nearly 4,000 people participated in the rally, and most of them were in 'combat' dress with camouflage on their faces, sources said. No untoward incident was reported during the rally, which went on till 7 pm on Wednesday.

BSF shoots down the drone intruding Indian territory in Amritsar sector

The BSF on Sunday shot down a drone that had allegedly entered Indian territory from across the border in the Amritsar sector, officials said. Border Security Force (BSF) troops deployed along the International Border with Pakistan intercepted and brought down the drone, they said. BSF troops deployed at the border heard the buzzing noise of a suspected drone entering from Pakistan in the area near Shahjada village in Amritsar (Rural) district at 2.11 am, a BSF official said in a statement issued here. The troops intercepted the drone as per the drill laid down and fired at it, he said. The area was cordoned off and police and other agencies concerned were informed. During the search, the troops recovered the partially damaged drone. The black, DJI Matrice (Made in China) drone was lying near Dhussi Bundh close to Shahjada village, the statement added.

Gunfight erupts between security forces, Naxals on outskirts of Ranchi

A gunfight took place between Naxals and security forces on the outskirts of Ranchi city, police said. Acting on a tip-off that five members of the banned Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC) outfit were in a forest in Budmu area, a search operation was launched around 3.30 pm on Thursday, they said. Soon, a gunfight broke out between the Naxals and the forces, they added. "However, the extremists escaped taking advantage of the dense forest," Superintendent of Police (Ranchi-Rural) Naushad Alam told PTI. A rifle and some cartridges were seized from the area, he said. Alam said they have received information that some of the extremists were injured in the gunfight. "We are verifying it," he said.
