Sensex snaps 2-day losing streak; recovers over 150 points

The BSE Sensex recovered over 173.33 points in opening trade Monday on sustained buying in recently battered stocks amid strength in the rupee. The 30-share Sensex, which lost 340.78 points Friday, recovered by 173.33 points, or 0.52 per cent, to 33,522.64. Positive trend appeared in some sector led by Infra and Auto, while mixed movements were seen in the banking stocks. The NSE Nifty too edged up by 44.25 points, or 0.44 per cent, to 10,074.25. Meanwhile, the rupee recovered by 14 paise to 73.33 against the US currency in early trade Monday. The 30-share index Friday tumbled 340.78 points to end at seven-month low of 33,349.31, while the broader NSE Nifty had slipped 94.90 points to 10,030.00. In the Sensex pack, ICICI Bank, SBI, Axis Bank, M&M, Sun Pharma, Asian Paints, Bajaj Auto, HeroMotocorp and Maruti were major gainers. Vedanta intimates of GoI grant of 10 year extension of PSC for Rajasthan Block

The tenure of the RJ Block PSC is due to expire on 14 May, 2020. The tenure of the RJ Block PSC has been extended for an additional period of 10 years with effect from 15 May 2020. Such extension has been granted by the GoI, pursuant to its policy dated 7 April, 2017 for extension of Pre-New Exploration Licensing Policy (Pre-NELP) Exploration Blocks PSCs signed by the GoI (the Pre-NELP Extension Policy), subject to certain conditions. The applicability of the Pre-NELP Extension Policy to the RJ Block PSC is currently sub judice.

Rupee gains 14 paise to 73.33 against US dollar in early trade

The rupee recovered by 14 paise to 73.33 against the US currency in early trade Monday, on fresh dollar selling by exporters and higher opening in the domestic equity markets. At the Interbank Foreign Exchange, the rupee opened up at 73.33 to quote 14 paise higher over its previous closing, on increased selling of the American currency by exporters and banks. On Friday, the rupee had depreciated by 20 paise to close at 73.47 against the US dollar. Forex dealers said, weakness in the dollar against a few currencies overseas and easing crude prices gave some support to the local unit. Globally, Brent crude, the international benchmark, was trading 0.05 per cent down at USD 77.58 per barrel. The benchmark BSE Sensex started the session on a positive note up by 200.57 points at 33,549.88 in opening trade Monday. Malaysia launches sale of superyacht linked to graft scandal

Malaysia's government launched a one-month auction Monday for a luxury yacht bought with money stolen from the multibillion-dollar looting of a state investment fund. The sale came nearly three months after Indonesia returned the USD 250 million yacht, Equanimity, after it seized off Bali in February in cooperation with the US FBI. The US Justice Department, one of several foreign agencies investigating a massive graft scandal at the 1MDB fund, had listed the yacht among the assets it could seize and sell to recover stolen funds. US investigators said Malaysian financier Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, who the Justice Department alleges was a key figure in the theft and international laundering of USD 4.5 billion from 1MDB, bought the yacht with proceeds diverted from 1MDB.
