The Russian ruble has fallen to its lowest level against the dollar since April 2016 amid fears of new economic sanctions by the United States. In today morning trading in Moscow, the ruble had fallen by around 2 per cent to trade at nearly 69 to the dollar. The latest drop in the value of the Russian currency came amid talk that the U.S. was readying further sanctions. On Tuesday, the US slapped sanctions on two Russian shipping companies over alleged oil trading with North Korea. It could also impose much broader sanctions as a consequence of the poisoning of ex-spy Sergei Skripal in Britain in March. Russian President Vladimir Putin called sanctions against Russia "counterproductive and senseless" following talks Wednesday with his Finnish counterpart Sauli Niinisto.
Mahindra Lifespace Developers today announced its fifth housing project at the 1,500-acre integrated green township 'Mahindra World City' here. The project 'Lakewoods' would have 747 apartments spread across 9.33 acres, Mahindra Lifespace said in a regulatory filing. Reliance Industries (RIL) today became the first Indian company to cross Rs 8 lakh crore market capitalisation. RIL shares rose 1.72 per cent to hit a record high of Rs 1,268 per scrip in the afternoon trade on BSE. Following the gain in the counter, the company's market valuation soared to Rs 8,04,247.76 crore in the afternoon trade. On July 13, the market valuation of RIL surged past Rs 7 lakh crore mark, making it the second company after TCS to achieve this milestone. RIL was among the top gainers of the S&P BSE Sensex, which traded at 38,356.55, up 70.80 points or 0.18 per cent.

Toshiba Carrier Corporation today announced a new joint venture with United Technologies South Asia Pacific PTE for commercial air-conditioning products. Toshiba Carrier Corporation (TCC) will hold 51 per cent stake and United Technologies South Asia Pacific PTE will hold the balance 49 per cent in the joint venture (JV) firm Toshiba Carrier Air-Conditioning India. "The new joint venture... allows Toshiba Carrier to localise planning, development, manufacturing and sales of its commercial air-conditioning products, expanding its footprint in the country," TCC said in a statement. The company said new joint venture has been created to support strong demand for variable refrigerant flow (VRF) solutions. VRF is a form of commercial air-conditioning for applications such as office buildings and condominiums. Kapas prices moved down by 1.21 per cent to Rs 1,140 per 20 kilos in the futures trade today on liquidating of holdings amid thin demand in the spot markets. Marketmen said bumper ready stocks on non-stop arrivals along with easing of demand from fiber and textile industries in the spot markets mainly dragged down the prices of kapas in futures trade. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, kapas for April dipped by Rs 14, or 1.21 per cent, to Rs 1,140 per 20 kilos, with the business turnover of 3,844 open lots.
Larsen & Toubro rose 2.79% to Rs 1,359 at 13:43 IST on BSE after the company said it will buyback 6 crore shares at a maximum price of Rs 1,500 each.
