Mahajan to attend South Asian Speakers' summit in Sri Lanka

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan will attend the two-day South Asian Speakers' Summit starting tomorrow in Colombo in Sri Lanka on achieving the sustainable development goals. Promoting regional parliamentary cooperation for sustainable, equitable and green economic growth, is the theme of the third edition of the summit. Besides Mahajan, representatives from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka will deliberate on the subject. Mahajan will be accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Bhubaneshwar Kalita and Lok Sabha Secretary General Snehlata Shrivastava, the Lok Sabha Secretariat said in a statement. An outcome document will also be adopted after the conclusion of the summit.

Karnataka signs MoU with Taiwanese science parks

Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with two Taiwanese Science Parks to strengthen links with the parks there. The agreement would enhance technological know-how through mutual development and innovation, an official press release said here. The MoU would also facilitate mutual exchange of faculty from identified academic institutes to learn new technologies and industry's best practices, the release said. "The agreement will be mutually beneficial to both Karnataka and Taiwan as it will enhance skill development, mutual industry facilitation and encourage startups and MSMEs," Principal Secretary, IT/BT and ST Department, Gaurav Gupta said in the release. "The signing of the pact between the two science parks in Taiwan and KITS will strengthen relations in biotechnology, information technology and other emerging technologies," Ambassador of Taiwan to India Chung-Kwang Tien said in the release.

Gammon Infrastructure Projects today said its arm Rajahmundry Godavari Bridge has terminated the concession agreement with Andhra Pradesh Road Development Corporation for a road bridge project on Godavari river. Rajahmundry Godavari Bridge served a notice yesterday to terminate concession agreement for road bridge project on Godavari river, Gammon Infrastructure Projects said in a BSE filing. The notice of termination of agreement was given on account of several breaches of the said Concession Agreement by Andhra Pradesh Road Development Corporation ('APRDC'), it claimed. The project connects Kovvur and Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh. The Project is operational since November, 2015, and has contributed Rs.57.89 crores to the consolidated revenue of the company for financial year 2017-18, it said. India-Korea for early upgradation of trade pact

India and South Korea today resolved for early conclusion of talks to upgrade the existing Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) for expanding bilateral trade to USD 50 billion by 2030. India also welcomed Korea's willingness to partner in its flagship initiatives, including Make in India, Skill India, Digital India, Startup India and Smart Cities. South Korea's President Moon Jae-in is on a four-day visit to India. According to a joint statement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Moon expressed desire to expand trade between the two countries. "Resolving to work towards promoting mutual prosperity, we agreed to expand bilateral trade, including through the early conclusion of ongoing negotiations to upgrade the ROK-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA)," the statement said.
