Jharkhand CM warns of shutting coal mines over non-payment of dues by PSUs

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has warned the coal companies of putting barricades around coal mines if due payment of worth Rs 1.36 lakh crore is not cleared to the state by Central PSUs."We have demanded payment of Rs 1.36 lakh crore (dues) to the state from the coal companies, and we will take it, this is State's right otherwise we will put barricades around coal mineral resources," the Chief Minister said in his speech in the Legislative Assembly on Friday.Soren had raised the issue of non-payment of dues by coal companies to the Centre in a letter to Union Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi dated March 2, 2022."Inspite of repeated consultations held with @CoalMinistry & @NITIAayogregarding non payment of long standing legitimate dues of Rs 1.36 lakh crores related to mining done by Central PSUs, Govt of India has paid no heed so far. China cracks down on illegal quarries following coal mine accident

China has launched a nationwide campaign to crackdown on illegal mining, days after 22 workers were trapped in an unauthorised coal quarry following heavy flooding. Twenty-two people were trapped on Wednesday after a coal mine was flooded in the city of Xiaoyi, north China's Shanxi province, as a result of illegal mining, according to state-run Xinhua news agency. The rescue operations are still underway. The local public security department has detained six suspects and is hunting others, state-run CGTN TV reported. Authorities have launched a nationwide campaign against illegal mining, Xinhua reported late on Thursday night. The high demand for coal has shored up prices, prompting the resurgence of illegal coal mining, according to the Office of the Work Safety Committee of the State Council and the Ministry of Emergency Management. Aluminium plants grappling with critically low level of coal stock: AAI

Aluminium plants in the country are grappling with critically low level of coal stocks and if the fuel supply is not restored immediately it would lead to irrevocable collateral damage, industry body AAI warned on Friday. The statement comes at a time when the supply of coal by CIL to non-power sectors has been kept suspended temporarily amid electricity generating plants in the country facing fuel shortages. "Today also, aluminium industry has not received any relief with respect to the ongoing coal supply crisis. Indian aluminium plants are grappling with critically low levels of coal stock, with no recourse or alternative means to meet their power needs and keep the plants operational," Aluminium Association of India (AAI) said.
