The Congress on Thursday alleged that Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha Piyush Goyal instructed BJP MPs to obstruct Mallikarjun Kharge from speaking in the House and accused the saffron party of crossing all limits of decency and decorum in Parliament. Kharge could not speak in the upper house due to sloganeering after the External Affairs minister's statement on India's foreign policy developments. Both treasury benches and the opposition were raising slogans due to which Kharge could not make his point. Following the uproar, Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar adjourned the House till 2 pm. Taking to Twitter, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, "BJP continues to cross all limits of decency and decorum in Parliament." "Today morning no less than the Leader of the House Piyush Goyal actively instigated BJP MPs who then obstructed Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge ji from speaking in the Rajya Sabha to raise INDIA's demands for PM's statement on Manipur and for a ...
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and accused him of not speaking in Parliament and instead making political speeches in Rajasthan. Kharge said people have now become aware and will fight "this kind of politics". "Today, people have become aware and they will fight and continue to do so...This means you do not want to talk in Parliament - the temple of democracy, and want to give a political speech in Rajasthan while opening new medical colleges," he told reporters outside Parliament, while attacking the prime minister for not speaking in Parliament on the Manipur violence. The opposition has been accusing the prime minister of not making a statement in Parliament on the northeastern state, which has seen violence since May 3. Both Houses of Parliament have not been able to transact any business amid the uproar caused by the opposition, demanding a statement from the prime minister and a discussion on Manipur thereafter.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday urged suspended AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh not to sit on protest overnight and end it every day when Parliament's proceedings conclude. He told Singh that the protest sit-in should be held when the day's proceedings begin and end when both Houses adjourn for the day. Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have been witnessing disruptions every day since the Monsoon session began on July 20. Singh readily agreed to Kharge's suggestion and said he will follow what the leader of the opposition bloc says. However, he is yet to formally announce his party's decision on the suggestion made by the Congress veteran. Kharge along with other Congress members and those of other opposition parties had come to join Singh's protest when he gave his suggestion. Singh has been protesting in the Parliament premises since his suspension Monday from Rajya Sabha for "unruly behaviour" for the entire session which ends on August 11.

Kharge said 83 days of unabated violence in Manipur require that the prime minister make a comprehensive statement in Parliament. "Stories of absolute horror are now slowly trickling down. INDIA demands answers from the Modi Government on Manipur violence," he said on Twitter. Kharge said it was high time that Modi sheds his "ego" and takes the country into confidence on Manipur. The Bill was examined in detail by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology, which suggested a number of important amendments to ensure that the provisions in it were not misused or abused, the Congress leader said. A few members had submitted notes of dissent as well, he pointed out, adding that the committee's report was submitted on February 3, 2021. Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister TS Singhdeo on Sunday said the Congress would fight the assembly polls under a "collective leadership" helmed by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and if the party wins, Baghel would be "first in line" to be considered for the CM's post. In an interview with PTI, Singhdeo said if an incumbent chief minister has not been removed, it means the party maintains its belief in that person being able to lead the team to victory and after the win "why should the captain be changed". He also predicted the Congress was likely to bag another resounding mandate in the 90-member assembly, saying some are projecting 75-plus seats for his party but his estimate is anywhere between 60 to 75-plus. The Congress had won 68 seats in the 2018 assembly polls. Asked if tensions between Baghel and him are a thing of the past after he was made the deputy chief minister last month, Singhdeo said, "There was no real bitterness or enmity, we (Baghel and him) were working together

Responding to the jibes of Congress leaders that his ancestor 'betrayed' Rani Lakshmibai, Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Saturday asked why his late father and later he were allowed to join the party. He was unfazed by such criticism, the BJP leader who left the Congress in 2020 told reporters here. Those who have not read a page of history, let them speak whatever they want to. My and family's deeds, thoughts and ideology are dedicated to Gwalior, Gwalior division, Madhya Pradesh and the country.....If they are so concerned, why did they induct my father (late Madhavrao Scindia), me in the Congress? he asked. Posters claiming that the Scindias, erstwhile rulers of Gwalior, betrayed Lakshmibai, the Rani of Jhansi, during the 1857 revolt, and later the Congress party in 1967 and 2020, came up in the city before Congress leader's Priyanka Gandhi's rally here on Friday.
