Classic example of indigestion: Nadda slams Cong on Nehru Library renaming

BJP president JP Nadda on Friday slammed the Congress over its remarks on the renaming of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, saying its inability to accept that there are leaders beyond "one dynasty" is a classic example of "political indigestion". The government renaming the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Society (NMML) here as the Prime Ministers' Museum and Library Society has drawn sharp reaction from the Congress that called it a "petty act" while asserting that legacies do not get erased by renaming buildings. Reacting to the renaming of the NMML, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said this shows the "low mentality and dictatorial attitude" of the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as they can never reduce the huge contribution of Nehru, whom he described as the architect of modern India. In a series of tweets, Nadda said, "Classic example of political indigestion -- the inability to accept a simple fact that there are leaders beyond one dynasty who have

Congress to stage protest against Centre over rice supply issue on June 20

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Friday said the Congress will hold protests at all district centres against the BJP government at the Centre on June 20, as he accused it of ensuring that the state doesn't get the required amount of rice to implement its 'Anna Bhagya' scheme, which provides additional 5 kg of rice for BPL families. Noting that the state government is making all efforts to procure rice from other sources and from producing states, he indicated that there may be slight delay in rolling out the scheme against the scheduled date of July one. "I want to congratulate BJP national President J P Nadda, as they (BJP) have walked the talk", Shivakumar said sarcastically. "It was reported in the media quoting him that if BJP loses the election central schemes to the state will get affected, he has kept up his word. Even as the Prime Minister speaks about federal structure..." Speaking to reporters here, he said, the BJP government at the Centre is indulging in

The Congress on Friday hit out at the government over renaming of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Society here as Prime Ministers' Museum and Library Society, calling it a "petty act" and asserting that legacies don't get erased by renaming buildings. Congress leader Arjun Modhwadia on Thursday termed the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) a fake issue and said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) raises it whenever there are elections. The Law Commission on Wednesday initiated a fresh consultation process on the UCC by seeking views from stakeholders including public and recognised religious organisations. They (BJP) raise this issue during Assembly elections in a state, it is a fake issue. This issue will not bring about any changes in people's lives, Modhwadia, a leader from Gujarat, told reporters here. Asked about his and his party's stand on the UCC, he said it was a national-level issue and he was only a leader in a state.

Black day for Indian sports: Congress after chargesheet on Brij Bhushan

The cry for justice of India's daughters has been "consigned to the dustbin and buried" by the Modi government, the Congress alleged on Thursday after Delhi Police recommended the cancellation of a complaint filed by a minor wrestler against BJP MP and outgoing WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The BJP's new slogan is "Beti Darao, Brij Bhushan Bachao", Congress general secretary Randeep Surjewala said on a day the Delhi Police cited "no corroborative evidence" against Singh, who faces charges of sexual harassment and stalking. The government had assured the agitating wrestlers that the charge sheet in the case would be filed by June 15, following which they had suspended their stir. Congress general secretary Randeep Surjewala said it was a "black day" for sports in the country and alleged that the entire government apparatus has been pressed into service to save Bhushan, who has been accused of sexual exploitation by women wrestlers. "The Real Slogan is 'scare daughters, save B

Goa Oppn members boycott LS Speaker Om Birla's address in state Assembly

Opposition parties in Goa on Thursday boycotted Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla's address in the state Legislative Assembly with the Congress questioning why he was not giving a chance to party leader Rahul Gandhi to represent himself over his disqualification in a defamation case. Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and other members of the ruling parties were present for the function. Three persons were shot at in West Bengal's North Dinajpur district on Thursday when they were on their way to file nominations for the panchayat polls, officials said. Cong slams govt over UCC, says attempt to seek opinion shows desperation

The Congress on Thursday said the Law Commission's latest attempt to seek fresh public opinion on a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) represents the Narendra Modi government's desperation for continuing with its agenda of polarisation and diversion from its failures. In a statement, Congress general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh said it is strange that the Law Commission is seeking a fresh reference when it acknowledges that its predecessor, the 21st Law Commission, had published a consultation paper on the subject in August 2018. Ramesh said no reasons have been given by the Law Commission on why the subject is being revisited except for vague references to "the relevance and importance of the subject and also, various court orders". "The real reason is that the 21st Law Commission after carrying out a detailed and comprehensive review of the subject observed that it is 'neither necessary nor desirable at this stage' to have a Uniform Civil Code. "This latest attempt represents
