Govt should set up department of peace if it believes in democracy: Gehlot

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday said the BJP-led Centre should set up a department of peace and non-violence just like his government has done if it truly believes in democracy and the Constitution. Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of winning elections in the name of religion, Gehlot said ensuring poll victories in this manner is easy and not an act of bravery. He reiterated that the situation in the country is alarming and that democracy is under threat. Speaking at the "Rajasthan Gandhi Darshan Sammelan" programme here, Gehlot alleged that the BJP had put forward Anna Hazare, Arvind Kejriwal and yoga guru Ramdev in a movement against the previous Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre on issues such as Lokpal and added that there is no talk about issues such as Lokpal, 2G spectrum or the coal scam today. "Today, the question is what is the state of democracy in this country? It is not known in which direction the countr

Govt unable to protect citizen's detail: Cong slams Centre over data breach

The Congress on Tuesday intensified its attack on the Centre over the alleged data breach on CoWIN platform and accused it of not being able to protect the personal details of crores of people. Asserting that the CoWIN portal was completely safe with adequate safeguards for data privacy, the government has dismissed as "mischievous" the claims of data breach on the platform and said the matter has been reviewed by the country's nodal cyber security agency CERT-In. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said neither does the Narendra Modi government care about the right to privacy of citizens nor about national security. "Overall, the situation is clear. The Modi government neither cares about the fundamental right to privacy of 140 crore people nor about national security. Data privacy law has not been made and no national security policy has been implemented on cyber attacks," he said in a tweet in Hindi. "No matter how much an irresponsible Modi government covers up the CoWIN data

Congress demands answers on ex-Twitter CEO's claim of pressure from Centre

The Congress Tuesday demanded answers from the Modi government after ex-Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey claimed the platform was threatened it would be shut down unless it complied with orders to restrict accounts critical of the government during the farmers' protest. The Centre has, however, rubbished the charges, saying Dorsey's Twitter regime had a problem accepting the sovereignty of Indian law. In a tweet, Congress general secretary Randeep Surjewala said, "The Modi Government forced Twitter to shut down accounts of Farmers and Farmer's movement, shut down accounts of journalists critical of Government, or Twitter and its employees would be raided". "This is what Twitter Co Founder and Ex CEO Jack Dorsey admits in a TV interview. Will Modi Government answer," he asked. He also shared clips from a TV interview in which Dorsey levelled the allegations. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh too took to Twitter, saying, "During the farmers agitation the cowardly BJP government threatened to shu

Priyanka Gandhi attacks MP's BJP govt with '21 jobs, 225 scams' jibe

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Monday kickstarted her party's campaign for the year-end Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh with a rally in Jabalpur where she accused the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government of being mired in corruption and failing to provide jobs. She cited alleged corruption in Vyapam and ration distribution and said 225 "scams" had taken place in the 220 months of Bharatiya Janata Party rule in the state. "In the last three years, only 21 government jobs were provided in the state by the BJP government. When this figure was brought to my notice, I got it checked three times from my office and found it is a fact," she said. Gandhi said the Chouhan government had not even spared gods, referring to winds on May 28 damaging six idols in the Ujjain's Mahakal Lok corridor, the first phase of which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October last year. The 900-metre corridor at the renowned Mahakaleshwar Temple is being built at a cost of Rs 856

AAP's politics solely dependent on educating children: Delhi CM Kejriwal

Neither the BJP nor the Congress talked about education during their respective tenures in Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Monday, while asserting that his government's politics is solely dependent on educating children. He made the remarks at the inauguration of a new building of a government school in west Delhi's Uttam Nagar. "This school was constructed in 1985. The governments of (BJP and Congress) came to power. But education was not on their agenda. "Neither the BJP nor the Congress spoke about providing education. But our politics is dependent on education," the chief minister said. He said his government is just the "means to educate children", adding "probably God was waiting for the AAP to come to power and improve the condition of schools". "Earlier, girls used to have this feeling that they were going to government schools while their brothers studied in private schools. But now the government schools in Delhi are providing good education. Some more ...

"Priyanka ji will launch the party's campaign and Sankalp 2023 by addressing a public meeting at Shahid Smarak at around 11.15 am. She will land here at around 10:30am and head to Gwarighat to pray to Narmada river, Jabalpur mayor and Congress' city chief Jagat Bahadur Singh earlier told PTI.
