ED issues notice to take possession of assets in Cong-linked AJL case

The Enforcement Directorate Saturday said it has issued notices to take possession of immovable assets worth Rs 661 crore that it had attached in probe into the money laundering case against Congress-controlled Associated Journals Limited (AJL). The federal probe agency said in a statement that it has affixed these notices at the Herald House located in Delhi at ITO, at the premises in Bandra area of Mumbai and the AJL building located at Bisheshwar Nath Road in Lucknow on Friday. The notices seek vacation of the premises or transfer of rent (in the case of the Mumbai asset) to the ED. The action has been taken under Section (8) and Rule 5(1) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) that talks about the procedure of taking possession of the assets that are attached by the ED and confirmed by the adjudicating authority (of PMLA). The Congress on Friday accused the Modi government of destroying domestic investment and also causing a "near annihilation" of Foreign Domestic Investment through its practice of "another type of FDI -- Fear, Deceit, and Intimidation". In a post on X, AICC General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh said the net FDI in India during April to January 2024-25 was only USD 1.4 billion, against USD 19 billion from April-January 2012-13, when the Congress-led UPA was in power. CWC to meet today to chalk out future roadmap, discuss poll preparations

A day before the AICC session, the Congress' highest decision-making body CWC will meet here on Tuesday to deliberate on the party's future roadmap, key national issues, organisational strengthening and preparations for upcoming polls. An extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting will be attended by its members, permanent and special invitees, Pradesh Congress Committee presidents, Congress parliamentary party leaders, council leaders, Central Election Committee (CEC) members, office-bearers of Congress parliamentary party office, former chief ministers and deputy chief ministers.
