Coromandel Engineering appoints G V Manimaran as CMD for five years

Coromandel Engineering Company on Tuesday announced the appointment of G V Manimaran as the Chairman and Managing Director. His appointment is effective Tuesday for a period of five years. Manimaran has also been appointed as an additional Director (Executive), the company said in a regulatory filing. He joins the company with over four decades of experience across sectors like banking, finance, legal and marketing. He is the founder and Director of Sasvitha Home Finance Limited. In his previous roles, he has served as a director at Canara Bank. On Tuesday, the company's board signed a memorandum of understanding with Nico Allen Infrastructure Pvt Ltd and Bharath Medical College and Hospital to execute infra projects estimated at a value of Rs 450 crore. Besides, the company board appointed three independent directors. Odisha Triple Train Accident: Death toll increases to 290, says official

The toll in Bahanaga Bazar train disaster rose to 290 after a 17-year-old resident of Bihar succumbed to his injuries in SCB Medical College and Hospital here on Friday, officials said. Prakash Ram, who was travelling in the ill-fated Shalimar-Chennai Coromondel Express on June 2 when it met with the accident, was undergoing treatment at the surgery ward of the state-run hospital, he said. He had sustained severe head and leg injuries, besides internal injuries and was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition. A portion of his left leg was amputated below the knee but his condition deteriorated during the past few days, the hospital authority said. It informed the local police about the death and the body will be handed over to Prakash's family after post-mortem. Hospital superintendent Sudhanshu Sekhar Mishra told PTI that the doctors had carried out a second amputation above the left knee three days ago as the patient had suffered from infection after blood transfusion.

Rly Board posts vacancies in safety category, days after Balasore tragedy

The Railway Board on Monday directed its zones to launch a "special drive" to fill promotional vacancies especially in the safety category, a move that comes amidst criticism over vacant posts in the transportation behemoth following the Balasore three-train accident in which 288 people lost their lives. The internal order, accessed by PTI, has been sent to general managers of all railway zones and states that instructions have been issued by the Board from time to time emphasising the need for filling up promotional vacancies. "It has been reiterated that Railways should ensure making use of all modes of promotions such as Selection/Non-Selection/Trade Test/LDCE (Limited Departmental Competitive Examination)/GDCE (General Departmental Competitive Examination) liberally to fill up the vacancies timely by chalking out a suitable action plan for the same," it said. Coromandel Express passes through Bahanaga accident site at 30 kmph

Four days after the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express was involved in a triple train accident near Bahanagar Bazar station in Odisha's Balasore district, the down train from Chennai crossed the accident site at 30kmph on Tuesday. As the train passed through, a sizeable number of onlookers witnessed the locomotive chug through the distance. More than 70 trains including Vande Bharat Express have so far crossed through Bahanaga Bazar Station since both the up and down lines were restored on Sunday night. The three trains involved in the major accident which claimed 278 lives and injured 1200, were the Howrah-Chennai Coromandel Express, Bengaluru-Howrah Express and a stationary goods train. CBI begins Coromandel Express crash probe, collects first-hand report

A 10-member CBI team, which is in Odisha to probe the triple train accident, inspected the tracks, signal room and talked to railway officials at Bahanaga Bazar station in Balasore district on Tuesday. The CBI probe was recommended by the Railway Board on Sunday. In all, 278 people have lost their lives and over 1,200 injured in the June 2 train crash. A forensics team, which is accompanying the CBI officials, also spoke to signal room employees and sought information about the functioning of different equipment. The CBI will probe criminal angles into the accident as the Railways suspect sabotage and outside intervention behind the accident. Odisha accident: Mamata cancels Darjeeling trip to take care of injured

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday cancelled her four-day trip to Darjeeling at the last minute to supervise the treatment and rehabilitation of passengers of the state who were injured in the triple train accident in Odisha's Balasore, sources said. The Trinamool Congress chief was supposed to visit Darjeeling where she was scheduled to meet members of all political parties in the Hills before the panchayat elections slated this year, secretariat sources said. Odisha train crash: Driver error ruled out, possible sabotage being probed

The railways on Sunday virtually ruled out driver error and system malfunction, indicating a possible "sabotage" and tampering of the electronic interlocking system behind the triple train accident that claimed at least 288 lives in Odisha. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the "root cause" of the accident and the "criminals" responsible for it have been identified. "It happened due to a change made in the electronic interlocking and point machine," he told reporters at the site of the accident in Balasore district. Here in Delhi, top railway officials explained how the point machine and the interlocking system function. They said the system is "error proof" and "fail safe" but did not rule out the possibility of outside intervention. Four coaches of the Coromandel Express derailed in Odisha's Balasore district on Friday evening after a head-on collision with a goods train, officials said. The accident happened around 7.20 pm near Bahanaga Bazar station when the train was on the way to Chennai Central station from the Shalimar station near Kolkata, they said. Accident relief trains have been dispatched to the spot, a South Eastern Railway official said. It was not immediately known how many people were injured in the accident.
