IPL 2024 PBKS vs DC: Livingstone devises new way to tackle double bouncer

The IPL has allowed two bouncers per over in the 2024 edition and for the big-hitting Liam Livingstone, the best way to deal with it is to try and smash the rising ball for a six. The modern game is tilted in favour of the batters and two bouncers per over give bowlers more options in the unforgiving T20 format, feels Livingstone. Livingstone, who has established himself among the leading power hitters in the game, is pretty clear about his plans against the short ball. "Playing a bouncer is something that you have to got to do as a batter in T20 cricket. Whether they can bowl one or two in an over, I don't think it really matters. If it is coming at your head you have to find a way to hit it for six and our job as a batter is to develop the skill to be able to do that. "Instead of trying to hit a yorker for six, you try to hit a bouncer for six because bowlers have got more options now. It will be more effective on bigger grounds. I am not too sure how many bouncers bowlers would

IPL 2024, PBKS vs DC preview: Focus on Pant's return to competitive cricket

Rishabh Pant's resilient return to the cricket field in multiple roles will be the focus when Delhi Capitals take on Punjab Kings in their IPL opener here on Saturday, both teams hoping to erase the disappointment of below-par performances in the last season. Pant's miraculous escape from a life-threatening car crash in December 2022 has now become a tale of perseverance after the big-hitting wicketkeeper-batter made a faster than expected recovery to be back in action. He has been cleared to play as a keeper-batter and has the additional responsibility of captaining the side, taking back the position from David Warner, who led DC to a ninth-place finish in the 10-team tournament last year. "He (Pant) has probably batted more in the last week than he has ever batted leading into most of the IPLs. I think from his point of view, he wants to get a bit of trust back in his body again," said DC coach Ricky Ponting on Thursday ahead of the match to be played at the newly-constructed ...

IPL 2024 - Rishabh Pant training hard to get trust back in body: Ponting

Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting on Thursday said skipper Rishabh Pant is putting in extra effort to get the "trust back" in his body for the upcoming IPL following the horrific accident that sidelined him for 14 months. India wicketkeeper Pant suffered a near-fatal accident in December 2022, which resulted in a year-long recovery phase and forced him to skip last year's IPL. "He (Pant) has probably batted more in the last week than he has ever batted leading into most of the IPLs. I think from his point of view, he wants to get a bit of trust back in his body again," said Ponting on the skipper's approach at the pre-season camp. "He has been putting himself through a few different paces and playing all the shots that he plays. He has been great, and more importantly, he has got a smile on his face, which is what all we love to see," added the former Australian captain. Ponting added that Pant has the kind of energy that is infectious and makes teammates follow him. "We all

Fit-again Rishabh Pant appointed Delhi Capitals captain for IPL 2024

Rishabh Pant was on Tuesday appointed as the captain of Delhi Capitals for the upcoming edition of the IPL, marking a wonderful chapter in his miraculous comeback saga. The keeper-batter missed cricketing action for 14 months after suffering a horrific car accident in December 2022. "We are delighted to welcome Rishabh back as our captain. Grit and fearlessness have always dictated his brand of cricket, and not surprisingly, even his road to recovery. "I can't wait to see him walk our team out once again as we look forward to a new season with renewed passion, vigour and enthusiasm," said DC chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal in a media release. The left-hander has been a part of the Capitals pre-season preparatory camp in Visakhapatnam, ahead of their first IPL 2024 match against Punjab Kings in Chandigarh on March 23. The IPL begins on March 22. Earlier, Pant was given clearance by the BCCI to play as a wicketkeeper batter in this year's IPL. "After undergoing an extensive 14-

WPL review: Women's Premier League looking to push boundaries, literally

Shafali Verma shimmied down the track and deposited off-spinner Ashleigh Gardner's slot-ball on the off-stump 91 metres over wide long-on for a six, the longest of this year's Women's Premier League. That nearly 20 seconds of explosive moment underlined the fast-evolving landscape of women's cricket -- the increasing infiltration of power and fitness. But it has also accentuated the talk about the possibility of stretching the boundary perimeter similar to that in men's cricket. "Yeah, we have seen some big sixes getting hit this year in the WPL, and a lot of chat is going on about pushing back the boundary lines (in the tournament). The increasing power limit of players is obvious, thanks to their focus on fitness. "But for that (increasing the length of boundary), detailed discussion with players, coaches etc is needed as ultimately, they have the biggest say in matters related to playing conditions," a BCCI official told PTI on condition of anonymity. Irrespective of the future

Difficult to get back his fluency in IPL 2024: Gavaskar on Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant will find it "very difficult" to be at his fluent best at the beginning of the IPL but Sunil Gavaskar expects that his knees will react better once he starts batting more and more in match situations. Having survived a horrific car crash in December, 2022, Pant will make a comeback to competitive cricket after more than 14 months as Delhi Capitals captain after an extensive rehabilitation programme. "It'll be very difficult. But the good thing is he (Pant) has played some cricket. So he has got some practice. To get fluency in batting is a little tough," Gavaskar told 'Star Sports'. He then explained his point of view. "When you talk of a knee injury, the pivoting that takes place. Wicket-keeping is difficult as well, but even in batting, the knee is quite important. So, maybe, in the beginning, we won't see the real Rishabh Pant that we are used to," the maestro said. Pant's presence and his chatty nature also adds to the entertainment quotient, Gavaskar admitted. "

IPL 2024: Pant's gymnastics background led to quick recovery say NCA staff

Rishabh Pant's mental strength and his background in gymnastics has helped the dashing wicketkeeper-batter to make an early recovery. Fifteen months after Pant was involved in a horrific car accident on the Delhi-Dehradun highway in December 2022, the wicketkeeper-batter received a green signal to play in the IPL, starting March 22. "The mental strength and confidence inside him made us give our 100 per cent in doing the rehab part for him," Thulasi Yuvraj, a physiotherapist at the National Cricket Academy told 'bcci.tv' "The doctors believed that he may take up to two years. Once he came to NCA, it was like a progressive phase for him," he added. Pant had dabbled in gymnastics at a young age and that served as an asset in his recovery, according to Nishanta Bordoloi, the strength and conditioning coach at NCA, "One thing was that Rishabh has a background for gymnastic which was a very very big asset for us because there are a few things that come naturally to him," Bordoloi ...

WPL 2024, DC vs RCB preview: Delhi to start as favourites in the final

In-form Delhi Capitals, led by the inspirational Meg Lanning, would hope to be second time lucky and lift their maiden Women's Premier League title when they take on a plucky Royal Challengers Bangalore in the summit clash here on Sunday. After missing out on the title in WPL's inaugural edition last year, losing by seven wickets to Mumbai Indians in the final, DC looked a rejuvenated side this year. DC have been in superb form this year, topping the five-team league standings with 12 points from eight matches. Lanning has led DC from the front, scoring 308 runs from eight innings, while South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp and Australian left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen are the highest wicket-takers for the side with 11 scalps each. DC's only two defeats this season came against Mumbai Indians UP Warriorz. Leaving aside those two matches, they have enjoyed a near-perfect campaign. Going into the final, they will definitely start as favourites, having never lost to RCB in four .
