As many as 33 personnel of the Delhi Police, including five women, will be conferred prestigious police medals on the occasion of Republic Day, recognising their acts of gallantry, distinguished service and meritorious contribution. The honours include 14 Medals for Gallantry, two President's Medals for Distinguished Service and 17 Medals for Meritorious Service, officials said. BMW crash victim taken to distant hospital deliberately, says Delhi Police

Navjot Singh, a 52-year-old finance ministry official, who was run over by a speeding BMW near Dhaula Kuan last September, was deliberately taken to a distant hospital, and the accident occurred because of the driver's fault, the Delhi Police informed a court here. Judicial Magistrate Ankit Garg on Thursday heard the city police's submission while taking cognisance of the chargesheet filed in December last year. The court said, "Inspector Shyoram submits that in the present case, the accident happened due to the fault of the accused (BMW driver Gaganpreet Makkad) and she deliberately took the accused to a distant hospital." Delhi Police impose traffic curbs today for Beating Retreat rehearsal

Traffic restrictions will be in place in parts of New Delhi on January 22 due to rehearsals for the Beating Retreat ceremony at Vijay Chowk, the Delhi Traffic Police said on Wednesday. According to a traffic advisory, Vijay Chowk will remain closed for general traffic from 4 pm to 6.30 pm. Vehicular movement will also be restricted on Raisina Road from the roundabout near Krishi Bhawan towards Vijay Chowk. Traffic will not be allowed beyond the roundabouts at Dara Shikoh Road, Krishna Menon Marg and Sunehri Masjid in the direction of Vijay Chowk during the rehearsal hours, it said. The stretch between Vijay Chowk and the Rafi Marg going towards Kartavya Path crossing will also remain closed during the specified hours. Motorists have been advised to plan their travel in advance and take alternate routes such as Ring Road, Ridge Road, Aurobindo Marg, Madarsa T-Point, Safdarjung Road (towards Kamal Ataturk Marg), Rani Jhansi Road and Minto Road.

Over 2,100 challans issued in Delhi Traffic Police's Jan 16 crackdown

Delhi Traffic Police issued 2,175 challans and impounded 23 vehicles during a special enforcement drive against traffic violations conducted across six major locations in the capital, an officer said on Saturday. The "zero-tolerance" drive was carried out on January 16, simultaneously at Anand Vihar ISBT, J B Tito Marg, Azadpur Mandi Chowk, Teen Murti Roundabout, Dwarka Mor on Najafgarh Road and Bikaner Chowk in Karol Bagh, he said. "The enforcement focused on violations such as improper parking, stop-line violations, wrong-side driving, no-entry violations and permit-related offences, which are considered major contributors to congestion and road safety risks," Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Monika Bhardwaj said. The police impounded 23 vehicles for serious violations during the drive. The intensified enforcement led to an improvement in traffic flow at the locations, the officer said, adding that similar enforcement drives will continue over the next seven days.

Turkman Gate violence: Delhi court sends 3 more accused to judicial custody

A Delhi court on Saturday sent three persons to 11-day judicial custody for their alleged involvement in the violence that broke out during a demolition drive near a mosque here in the Turkman Gate area. Accused of pelting stones near the Faiz-e-Elahi mosque at Turkman Gate, Ubaidullah, Mohammad Naved and Mohammad Faiz were produced before Kartik Taparia, duty judicial magistrate, fast track court, who remanded them to judicial custody till January 21. "In view of submissions of IO (investigating officer) concerned and also keeping in view the fact that the allegations against the accused are serious in nature and the investigation of the case is at initial stage, the application moved by the IO concerned is allowed," the court said. With the fresh arrests, police have apprehended 16 people, including a juvenile, so far. Delhi Police bust Taiwan-linked cybercrime gang, recover ₹100 crore

The Delhi Police has busted a Taiwan-linked international cybercrime syndicate that allegedly defrauded around Rs 100 crore from people across India by impersonating anti-terror and law enforcement officers and placing them under "digital arrest", an official said on Saturday. Seven people, including a Taiwanese national allegedly coordinating the operation, have been arrested so far in the case, registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), IT Act and Telecommunications Act, police said. Delhi Police has arrested one more accused in the Turkman Gate stone-pelting case, taking the total number of arrests so far to 12, even as security arrangements were tightened in and around the locality in view of Friday prayers, an official said. Shuttered shops, overturned scooters, broken tiles and stones marked the narrow lanes near the Turkman Gate area here on Wednesday, as the locality remained tense and under heavy security following violence during an anti-encroachment drive. Delhi Police on Friday has registered an FIR following a complaint by the Directorate of Education into the alleged misinformation being spread on social media over a circular to appoint nodal officers for matters related to stray dogs. Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood said the government decided to act against the "false information" being spread on the issue by Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal. Accordingly, the Directorate of Education (DoE) filed a formal complaint with the police, demanding legal action into the matter.
