In the run-up to the 2024 general elections, Delhi Congress will focus on door-to-door interactions with the masses and re-energise its grass-roots level workers in the national capital, an official said on Saturday. The decision was taken in a meeting of party workers, leaders and office-bearers called by newly-appointed AICC in-charge of Delhi Congress Deepak Babaria, who also passed two resolutions political and organisational after the meeting. L-G approves allotment of land for Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor project

Lieutenant Governor (LG) V K Saxena has approved allotment of 297 sqm of land at Jangpura for the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor project, Raj Niwas officials said on Saturday. The allotment of the land, belonging to the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), was "pending for the last two years" and was critical for implementation of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project, they said. The semi-high-speed regional rail service RAPIDX on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor will bring down the travel time between Delhi to Meerut significantly. The project is helmed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). The LG has approved allotment of 297 sqm of land keeping in view the national importance and public interest involved in the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS project, a senior official said. A day after the Environment Ministry said Delhi registered the highest number of 'good to moderate' air quality days this year since 2016, barring 2020, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Saturday said improving air quality in the city has been the most difficult task. Delhi also experienced the least number of days with 'poor to severe' air quality in the first half-year period (January to June) in 2023, compared to the corresponding period since 2016, except for COVID-19 affected 2020. "This was perhaps the most difficult task -- improving air quality. But a series of steps taken by Delhiites helped us achieve this seemingly impossible task. Still a long way to go. CBI books Delhi firm for cheating Union Bank of India of Rs 46 crore

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed an FIR against Delhi-based company Horizon Solution for allegedly cheating Union Bank of India to the tune of over Rs 46 crore in a loan fraud, officials said on Friday. The CBI has booked the East of Kailash-based company, its proprietor Zeba Urfi and guarantor Zaib Un Nisa on charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery and under the Prevention of Corruption Act, they said. The company, which is engaged in the sale and installation of IT hardware systems, had submitted plots worth crores of rupees in Dasna, Ghaziabad as collateral while availing credit facilities, the agency said. Delhi govt reshuffle: Atishi gets revenue, planning, finance after L-G nod

Delhi minister Atishi has been given the additional charge of Revenue, Planning and Finance departments following LG V K Saxena's nod to the cabinet reshuffle proposal, officials said on Friday. The three departments were earlier with minister Kailash Gahlot. Delhi records minimum temperature of 25 degrees C, light rain likely

Overcast skies with light rain are expected on Friday in the national capital which recorded a minimum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, according to India Meteorological Department. The relative humidity in the city was 92 per cent around 8:30 am. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 36 degrees Celsius, the weather office said. The air quality index (AQI) of Delhi was in the satisfactory (92) category around 8:40 am, data from the SAFAR showed. Delhi Police seeks death sentence for Shahbad Dairy murder accused

The Delhi Police on Thursday said that the murder of 16-year-old girl in Shahbad Dairy area was well-planned and they have put together a watertight case to ensure the accused gets death. "This was a case of well-planned murder which was carried out in revenge. We have all the evidence and within a month of incident we have submitted the charge sheet to get justice for the family of the victim," Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Dependra Pathak said. "We carried out the investigation with a professional and focused approach in the Sakshi murder case and filed a charge sheet before the court in record time. A Delhi court on Wednesday sent R K Arora, the owner of the real estate firm Supertech, to the ED's custody for interrogation till July 10 in a money-laundering case. Duty Sessions Judge Devender Kumar Jangala sent Arora to the custody of the Enforcement Directorate on an application filed by the agency. The ED in its application seeking Arora's 14-day custody told the court that the accused was required to be interrogated to unearth a larger conspiracy in the case.
