Several BJP MLAs and ticket aspirants on Monday rushed to Mumbai to meet Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis after the party released its first list of 99 candidates a day earlier for the November 20 assembly polls. These include MLA Devayani Pharande from Nashik Central assembly seat amid speculation that she may be replaced. The BJP has five MLAs in Nashik district, four of whom figured in the first list. Pharande reached Mumbai with some ex-corporators and supporters to boost chances of her candidature, party sources said. "Sitting MLAs may be thinking they will not be renominated in case their names don't figure in the first list. It is not like that. The party is taking stock of the situation. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said police have found some leads in connection with the killing of NCP leader and former state minister Baba Siddique. Different angles behind the killing were being probed, but police will talk about it later, Fadnavis, who holds charge of the state home department, told reporters in Gondia district. The deputy CM said the centre is the result of the transformative Maharashtra Cyber Security Project that the state undertook to tackle the growing number of fraudulent schemes on platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook and other cyber threats. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday said if people give a "bigger mandate" to the ruling Mahayuti in the upcoming state polls, the government would double the 'Ladki Bahin' scheme's monthly financial assistance amount to Rs 3,000. At present, the government pays Rs 1,500 per month to the beneficiaries of the 'Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana', the Mahayuti government's flagship financial assistance scheme for women in the state.
