Rules for invasive gadgets likely under Digital India Act: Chandrasekhar

Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Thursday held the first-ever consultation on the proposed Digital India Act and discussed rules to handle data captured by invasive gadgets like spy glasses and wearable devices. The draft of the Digital India Act will be firmed up after two more rounds of discussion with stakeholders, the minister told PTI in a virtual interview after the first consultation in Bengaluru. He said that the draft is likely to be issued in April and it will be followed up with more rounds of public consultation for about 45-60 days before being placed in the Parliament for final approval. "We have undertaken for the first time ever consultation around the principal architectural design of legislation. The outcome of this consultation will be a draft. Xiaomi India joins United Way to support digi learning for 4,000 students

Smart device maker Xiaomi on Thursday announced it has teamed up with United Way India to establish Innovative Tinkering labs to supplement the learning process for over 4,000 children across 12 government and one government-aided schools located in Karnataka and Delhi-NCR. Under the collaboration, Xiaomi India aims to develop sustainable futuristic skill-sets among children by offering them access to multiple technologies and enabling them to build new solutions to solve the challenges, Xiaomi said in a release. These labs will assist students in having a better insights into digital education, mobile technology, and robotics and empower them to have an effective learning experience. 90% firms lack culture, structure to unlock digital growth: Infosys report

A mere 7 per cent of companies have the right combination of culture and operating structure to spur growth from digital technologies, according to a new research from the Infosys Knowledge Institute. The report -- based on a survey of 2,700 business executives across the US, UK, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, China, and India -- found that companies that make decisions based on high quality, transparent data and build a culture of responsible risk-taking are more likely to deliver profitable growth in tough macro-economic conditions. Moreover, organising around products, not process, gets new products to market faster, increasing early-mover advantage. The report by Infosys Knowledge Institute (the thought leadership arm of Infosys) found that nine out of ten companies lack the culture and organisational structure to unlock digital growth. Trai initiates talks on digital connectivity infra provider authorisation

TRAI on Thursday began stakeholder discussions on introduction of 'Digital Connectivity Infrastructure Provider' authorisation under unified licence, as it underlined the importance of "robust" digital connectivity in economic development. Digital connectivity infrastructure plays a vital and leading role in successful implementation of various government schemes under Digital India, Make in India, Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission and development of smart cities, the regulator said as it floated its latest consultation paper for stakeholder views. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) further said the recently-launched 5G will transform India into a broadband superhighway and improve the country's socio-economic structure. It is imperative that new players are encouraged through conducive licencing framework for creation of active and passive infrastructure, it added. Budget: Govt proposes to simplify KYC procedure with 'risk-based' approach

The government on Wednesday proposed to simplify the KYC procedure by adopting a 'risk-based' rather than the 'one size fits all' approach currently in practice. In her Budget Speech, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman also proposed to introduce a 'one stop solution' for identity and address updating through the DigiLocker service. Another significant announcement made by the minister relates to use of PAN as common identifier for business establishments for digital systems of government agencies. "The KYC process will be simplified adopting a 'risk-based' instead of 'one size fits all' approach," Sitharaman said as she presented the last full budget before the 2024 general elections. The financial sector regulators will also be encouraged to have a KYC (Know Your Customer) system fully amenable to meet the needs of Digital India. Govt to launch Digital India Innovation Fund for startups: IT ministry

The government will launch a Digital India Innovation Fund that will support deeptech startups, Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Friday. The minister made these comments during his address to over 1,000 college students as part of the 'New India for Young India: Techade of Opportunities program' at the Catholic Bishop House Campus, Thamarassery, Kerala, an official statement said. Chandrasekhar said the government will launch a Digital India Innovation Fund that will support deeptech startups. The minister mentioned that PM's vision of New India is one with ample opportunities for every Indian to participate in the development process, with hardwork and skills as the only determinants of success.
