Fire breaks out at restaurant in Delhi
A fire broke out at a restaurant in Baba Kharak Singh Marg here on Saturday, the Delhi Fire Service said. No casualty or injury was reported, the officials said. A call about the fire was received at 11.35 am and four fire tenders were rushed to the spot, they said. "A fire broke out inside the kitchen of the restaurant and it was brought under control by 1.20 pm," a fire service officer said. He said the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Three killed in Ayodhya road accident
Three persons were killed in Ayodhya district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday when the driver of their vehicle lost control and it turned turtle, police said.

Six tourists from Mumbai die in bus-lorry collision
Six tourists from Mumbai died and ten others were injured Saturday in a crash between a bus and lorry near here, the police said. Both vehicles smashed into each other, Dharwad Superintendent of Police G Sangeetha said. Six people in the private bus died at the spot, she said. The condition of three of the injured, who were admitted to hospital, is stated to be critical, the officer said. The bus driver is among those injured. The bus in which the tourists were travelling was proceeding towards Hampi from Hubballi while the lorry was coming from the opposite direction, Sangeetha said. The tourists had left Hubballi early Saturday and with in an hour, the accident occurred.
Death toll in Tamil Nadu due to cyclone Gaja rises to 33
The death toll due to cyclone Gaja, which hit Tamil Nadu's coastal districts on Friday, has increased to 33, Chief Minister K. Palaniswami said on Saturday.
Pondy CM apprises Centre of damage caused by cyclone Gaja in
Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy Saturday said he has apprised the Centre of the damage caused by the cyclone Gaja in Karaikal. Talking to reporters here, he said Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had contacted him over phone yesterday to know of the extent of damage the Union Territory suffered. "An interim relief would be sought along with an interim report on the damage the cyclone has caused in Karaikal," the Chief Minister said. "I place on record the speed with which the officials are working to restore power supply in cyclone hit Karaikal," he said. To a query on the quantum of relief sought from the Centre, he said, "A detailed report was getting ready and it would be sent to the Centre on Monday with a plea for interim relief. The quantum of relief would be known only when the report was finalised," he said. A number of huts have collapsed in the impact of the cyclone and heavy rains in Karaikal. China begins reconstruction of Sino-Nepal friendship bridge damaged in 2015 quake
Chinese authorities have commenced the reconstruction of the Sino-Nepal "friendship bridge" that links the Himalayan nation with Tibet and was damaged in the massive 2015 quake. The earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25, 2015 severely damaged the bridge in Rasuwagadhi along the Nepal-China road, that had been a major trading route between Kathmandu and Tibet. Nepal and China signed an agreement on June 21 this year and the Chinese authorities started work on the bridge that will replace the earthquake-damaged bridge in Rasuwagadhi border. The new bridge is being constructed just five metres north-east from the damaged bridge. Chief District Officer of Rasuwgadhi, Krishna Paudel said the construction work of the bridge started on Chinese side a few days ago. The construction of the bridge that is an important link to China would complete by May 2019, according to officials.
Number of missing in California fire soars past 1,000 as Trump set to visit
The number of people listed as missing in a northern California wildfire jumped past 1,000 as searchers found the remains of eight more victims on the eve of President Donald Trump's trip to witness the devastation. Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea told reporters the number of people unaccounted for almost doubled from 631 to 1,011 in 24 hours as authorities receive more reports of people missing and as emergency calls made when the fire broke out are reviewed. Four feared dead in landslides in Kodaikanal
Four construction workers were feared dead after they were trapped in landslides at Chinnapallam near here early Saturday, police said. All the four, hailing from Salem, were feared buried following landslides triggered by heavy rains in the district late Friday night. Efforts are on to retrieve the bodies, they said. Meanwhile, traffic resumed along the Kodaikanal-Palani road after the debris and several uprooted trees were cleared.
Bursting bubbles launch bacteria from water to air: Study
Bacteria can act as tiny microbial grenades, bursting and launching microorganisms, including potential pathogens, out of the water and into the air, a study has found. The study, published in the journal Physical Review Letters, found that bacteria can affect a bubble's longevity. A bacteria-covered bubble floating at the water's surface can last more than 10 times longer than an uncontaminated one can, persisting for minutes instead of seconds, said researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US. During this time, the cap of the contaminated bubble thins. The thinner the bubble, the higher the number of droplets it can launch into the air when the bubble inevitably bursts. A single droplet, the researchers estimate, can carry up to thousands of microorganisms, and each bubble can emit hundreds of droplets. Chidambaram asks Rajnath to immediately send team to TN to assess damage caused by cyclone 'Gaja'
Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram Saturday urged Home Minister Rajnath Singhto depute a team of two officers immediately to inspect the extent of damage caused by cyclone Gaja in Tamil Nadu. The former union home and finance minister also requested Singh to modify the practice of sending inter-ministerial team to a disaster-affected state only after receiving a memorandum from the concerned state government. "I have requested HOME MINISTER through Home Secretary to depute a team of two officers immediately to visually inspect the extent of damage caused by cyclone Gaja (sic)," Chidambaram said in a tweet. He said the usual practice is for the state to submit a memorandum after a disaster hits it and a visit by the inter-ministerial team. He said this takes at least 2-3 weeks and full impact of the disaster is not measurable because of repair and restoration work. Karnataka: 6 dead, 10 injured in accident at Hubli
At least six tourists died and more than 10 were critically injured in a road accident near Hubli on National Highway 63.The accident took place when a bus, carrying a team of Mumbai based travelers, had a head-on collision with a lorry. Six of the tourists, who were headed to Hampi, died at the spot.The district police rushed to the spot and injured were admitted to the Hubli KIMS hospital for treatment.The deceased have been identified as Vishwanath (76), Dinkar (74), Ramesh Jaipal (70), Sumedha (65), Lahu (65) and Suchitra (65).A case has been registered in Annigeri Police Station and an investigation in the matter is underway.
16 kids injured as school bus collides with pillar in Noida
Eighteen people, including 16 children, were injured Saturday when a speeding school bus crashed into a pillar at an underpass here, police said. The incident happened around 8 am when the bus of a private school was crossing through the underpass at Rajnigandha Chowk, they said. "Sixteen children were injured in the accident. They were taken to Kailash Hospital and discharged after first-aid. The driver, Ganga Saran, has received severe injuries and is being treated," Manoj Kumar Pant, station house officer of Sector 20 police station, said. The bus has been seized, police said, adding a probe was underway.

The number of people missing in a devastating wildfire in northern California jumped to more than 1,000 on Friday, authorities said, as the remains of eight other victims were found by rescuers. UP: Tanker driver thrashed by mob after vehicle rams into house
A tanker driver was brutally thrashed by a mob after his vehicle collided with a car and allegedly crashed into a house in Uttar Pradesh's Azizganj village.Fortunately, the passengers travelling in the car were left uninjured after the tanker collision.The injured driver, Ram Pratap, was admitted to the district hospital in a critical condition by police who were said to be present at the spot when the mob was brutally thrashing the driver.When the driver fell unconscious, the police intervened and managed to disperse the agitated crowd.According to Dr VK Gangwar, the condition of the driver is critical as he has received external as well as internal injuries.The police have assured that investigation will be conducted into the matter and appropriate action will be taken.
Cyclone Gaja: Indian Navy pressed into action for relief ops

Wildfire's smoke delays 200 flights in San Francisco
San Francisco International Airport says nearly 200 flights have been delayed because of low visibility and smoke caused by wildfires in Northern California. Airport spokesman Doug Yakel said that as of noon on Friday about 15 per cent, or 195 flights, have had delays averaging 45 minutes. On Thursday, about 500 were delayed, representing about 40 per cent of the airport's flights. The airport averages about 1,250 flights per day. Yakel said smoke was the main factor in low visibility conditions, with visibility at about 2.4 kilometers Friday compared to 16 kilometers on a normal day. The airport is urging travellers to check with their airlines or the airport's website for their flights' status.
