A 27-year-old employee of a BPO was killed and four others were injured after their office car was hit by a truck in the early hours today in southeast Delhi's Okhla area, police said. Five employees of a call centre located in Sector 22, Noida, were returning home in their office car after their night shift when around 4 AM, a truck, bearing a Haryana registration number, hit their vehicle, they added. Jai Kumar Saini died in the accident while his colleagues Nitesh Sood (27), Dushyant (27), Swaroop (25) and Dharmender (26) were injured. The injured have been discharged after treatment. The autopsy of Saini was carried out at the AIIMS. The accused truck driver, identified as Shriramis, fled. However, the truck's numberplate fell down near the spot and the truck was later found in an abandoned condition from Mahipalpur. The truck driver was absconding and raids were being conducted to trace him, police said.

A pair of wheels of the engine of Samaleshwari Express derailed in Odisha's Rayagada district today, affecting train services on the route, a railway official said. Nobody was injured when two wheels of the engine of 18005 Samaleshwari Express from Howrah to Jagdalpur derailed near Keutaguda station, Chief Public Relations Officer of the East Coast Railways, J P Mishra, said. "Only one pair of wheels of the engine got derailed and no coach of the train was involved. There was no report of injury to anybody in the incident," Mishra said. An extra engine has been rushed from Rayagada to the site to take the coaches to Singapur Road station and steps are being taken to send a relief train to get the engine back on rails and take it to Rayagada, he said. Train services were affected for sometime on the route, which has a single line, said an official.

World agencies and neighbouring countries today hiked their response to an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo as the toll from the notorious disease mounted. A World Health Organization (WHO) emergency panel met in Geneva to determine whether the outbreak was "a public health event of international concern" -- a move that would step up global action. The death toll rose by two to 25 out of 45 cases, WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic told reporters. Fourteen of the cases have been confirmed in laboratory tests. Elevenpeople, many of them in their teens, were killed and 19 injured in Champawatdistrict today when a speeding truck rammed into a group of pilgrims walking to the Purnagiri temple. The pilgrims from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh were on their way to the hilltop temple, well known in the region, when they were knocked down by a dumper truck coming from behind. The accident took place at 5 am at Bichai, Tanakpur Sub Divisional Magistrate Anil Chanyal said. Nine pilgrims were killedon the spot and twoothers succumbed to their injuries while being taken to hospital, the district disaster management office in Champawat said. Four persons, including three of a family, died due to landslides when they were asleep in West Tripura today, District SP Ajit Pratap Singh said. Three persons of a family -- Shaniram Debbarma (40), his wife Amitbala (35) and their three-year-old son Abhi died in Subal Singh Para when debris fell on them at around 5.30 am today, while another eight-year-old boy belonging to the same family was injured and is being treated at a local hospital, Singh said. In another incident, a man, identified as Malendra Debbarma (65), also died around the same time at Kambukcherra of the same district. The two places are located about 35 kms from state capital Agartala and 10 kms from Khowai town.
