An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter Scale struck South Korea's Daegu city on Sunday morning.According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake struck about seven km northwest of Hoko. The quake hit at a depth of around 10 km.However, no casualties or loss of properties has been reported so far.This comes after last week's Taiwan earthquake which reportedly claimed 14 lives and wounded over 260.Taiwan is located in the Ring of Fire, an area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean, which is vulnerable to frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

Two people were killed and seven severely injured today after a private bus overturned when its driver tried to avoid ramming into a camel carcass lying on a highway in Rajsamand district, police said. The accident occurred when the bus carrying over 30 passengers was on its way from Gujarat's Surat to Asind in Rajasthan, they said. The bus driver, in an attempt to avoid hitting a camel carcass which was lying on the highway, lost control and the vehicle overturned, they added. The injured were rushed to the hospital where two passengers were declared brought dead, they said. Seven people were severely injured, they added.

An eight-year-old girl was killed and six others injured when a school bus collided head-on with a dumper in Rajasthan's Banswara district today, police said. The collision took place between the bus and the dumper laden with heavy stones on the Udaipur-Banswara state highway, they added. The dumper overturned and the driver and his helper fled fled from the spot, police said. The deceased was identified as Pratigya. The injured were referred to Udaipur after primary treatment at a local hospital in Banswara, they said. Meanwhile, angry villagers blocked the highway claiming accidents were commonplace, officials said.

A fire broke out Safe Hands Ladies Hostel, a facility for working women, here in the early hours today. There were no casualties as some inmates saw smoke coming out from a ceiling fan in one of the rooms and immediately alerted others and evacuated the building. There were some 40 women inmates in the hostel, located near Asilmetta Junction under Three Town Police station limits, when the fire broke out around 1.30 am, a police official said. Fire department officials said short circuit on the top floor was the probable cause. Belongings of some of the inmates were destroyed in the blaze. Some inmates alleged that the fire department didn't respond quickly enough. Fire inspector N Gopikrishna refuted the allegation, saying timely action by firemen saved some lives. "We will serve a notice to the hostel management for violation of safety norms and not having a No-Objection Certificate from the fire department," he said.
