Three killed in road accident in Ambala

Three persons, including a minor, were today killed when the car they were travelling in collided head-on with a truck on AmbalaSadhaura road here, police said. The victims were identified as Tarsem (14), Lovely (22), and Gurwinder (20), they said. "They were going to Gadholi village to attend a marriage," a police official said. "The truck driver managed to flee from the site leaving his vehicle behind," the official said, adding that a case of rash and negligent driving was registered against the unknown driver.

Survivors recall escape from leaning Taiwan apartment block

Chen Chih-wei only realised an earthquake had struck when his apartment suddenly turned on its side. The 80-year-old resident was fast asleep when a 6.4- magnitude tremor hit the Taiwanese city of Hualien just before late last night. "Everything fell down. My bed was completely vertical, I was sleeping and suddenly I was standing," he told AFP. Chen lived with his daughter on the top floor of the Yun Tsui apartment block where at least four people were killed as the building's lower floors collapsed, leaving the structure leaning dangerously at a forty degree angle. PM's wife Jashodaben injured, her relative killed in accident

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's wife Jashodaben was injured and her relative was killed when their car rammed into a truck in Rajasthan's Chittorgarh,police said. Jashodaben did not suffer any major injuries in the accident in which four other people travelling with her were also injured,SHO Parsoli Shyam Singh said. The deceased was identified as Basant Bhai Modi (67), a relative of Jashodaben, who died while undergoing treatment, the police said. The accident took place in Parsoli Police Station area when Jashodaben and others were travelling to Chittorgarh after attending a function in Kota, they said. The injured were rushed to a government hospital for treatment,the police said.

Rescuers scour toppled buildings after Taiwan quake kills five

Rescue workers pulled survivors and bodies from buildings tilting precariously in the Taiwanese city of Hualien today, after an overnight earthquake killed at least five, injured more than 200 and left dozens missing. Minor fire at DDA headquarters at INA

A minor fire broke out today in the building of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) headquarters at south Delhi's INA area, officials said. However, no one was injured in the incident, they said. A call of fire at the ground floor (auction hall) of the building (Vikas Sadan) was received at 12.11 am. Fire tenders were rushed to the spot immediately and the fire was brought under control by 12.55 am, a Delhi Fire Services officer said. The cause of the fire would be ascertained after investigation, but a short circuit is suspected, police said. A DDA official said smoke due to fire was sighted around 11 am after which many employees ran out of the building while efforts were also made to control the fire before the firefighters arrived. Four ACs and furniture, including 100 chairs kept in the hall that was locked, were burnt. "However, no documents or important papers were destroyed in the fire," he added.

Eight labourers killed as truck overturns in MP

Eight labourers, including a woman, were killed and as many others injured when a sand- laden truck overturned in the district in the early hours today, a police official said. Sixteen labourers were sitting in the truck when it turned turtle after one of its wheels got stuck in a ditch near Allu village, Additional Superintendent of Police Seema Alawa told PTI. Most of the victims, who used to load sand into trucks, died after getting trapped under the vehicle, she said. Soon after getting information, the police rushed to the spot, the ASP said. The truck driver fled after the accident, she said. The injured persons were admitted in the district hospital, she said, adding that a probe was on into the incident.

1 dead in London flat blaze

Fire at cloth mill in an industrial estate in Mumbai

A major fire broke out in a cloth mill at the Italian Industrial Estate near the Oberoi mall in suburban Goregaon this morning, an official said. No injury or casualty was reported so far in the blaze which broke out on ground floor of the three-storey building located in the industrial estate on Mulund Link Road, he said.
