Maratha quota in PG courses: Maha looking for solution, says

The Maharashtra government is mulling solutions, including issuing an ordinance, to solve the problem relating to Maratha students' admissions to post graduation medical courses against the backdrop of a court ruling on 16 per cent quota for the community, Minister Girish Mahajan said Monday. The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court had, earlier this month, said 16 per cent reservation given to the Maratha community by the state under the Socially and Economically Backward Classes (SEBC) category will not be applicable to admissions to the post-graduate (PG) medical and dental courses courses this year. The state government had later approached the Supreme Court, which upheld the verdict of the High Court. Mahajan said the state government was unable to do anything at the moment since the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha polls was in force (since March 10), adding that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was consulting experts on the issue. HC grants interim relief to DU student, allows her to appear in examination

The Delhi High Court granted an interim relief to a Delhi University student, who was short of attendance, by allowing her to appear in the annual examinations. Justice C Hari Shankar said this latitude was granted to the petitioner woman only because she was a student and "if she is not permitted to appear in the examination, possibly irreparable loss would ensue". The petitioner was a sixth semester student of BA (Hons) English course in Delhi University's Vivekanand College and her exams were scheduled to commence on May 11. Her counsel said she was into drama society and had participated in over 40 programmes in the 6th semester and the approval was granted by the college authorities. "In order to balance the equities of the present, the petitioner is permitted to appear in the 6th semester examinations... 20 Singapore students injured in bus accident in Vietnam

Official media say a van carrying 20 Singaporean students participating in a community service project has crashed into a curb in central Vietnam, injuring 12. The state-owned Tuoi Tre newspaper says two of the students, who were traveling to Bach Ma national park in Hue province, suffered leg and neck injuries respectively, but were not in critical condition. Others received minor injuries such as bruises. The newspaper said Monday that the students were treated at a provincial hospital, and all have been discharged except for the two with more serious injuries.

Girls outshine boys in TelanganaC exams

Girls outshone boys in theC Public Examinations in Telangana this year for regular candidates by securing a higher pass percentage. State Education Secretary B Janardhan Reddy and other officials Monday announced the results ofC Public Examinations, 2019 (X standard). An impressive 92.43 percentage of regular candidates passed the examinations this year, as against the 83.78 per cent in 2018, an increase of 8.65 per cent. "State percentage of passes of regular candidates is 92.43," Reddy told reporters. Among regular candidates, the pass percentage for boys was 91.18 while it was 93.68 for girls. TheC Public Examinations were conducted from March 16 to April 3. Spot valuation was held from April 15 to 26. Telangana State Board announces SSC results; 92.43% pass percentage recorded

Telangana State Board of Secondary Education (TSBSE) announced the SSC or Class 10 results for the year 2019 on Monday.While announcing results, Telangana state education Secretary B.Janardhan Reddy along with director and secretary of School Education T.Vijaya Kumar announced that a pass percentage of 92.43 per cent has been recorded this year."Students can check their results on the official website of the Telangana State Board of Secondary Education (TSBSE) at bse.telangana.gov.in and also in other private websites like Manabadi and Sakshi education etc," said a release issued by TSBSE.The TSBSE conducted SSC Examinations from March 16 to April 3. A total of 5,52,280 students had registered for the exams and 5,46,728 students along with 40,526 private candidates had appeared for the exams.In 2019, the total pass percentage is eight per cent higher than last year. Rajasthan to rejig school syllabus, says Savarkar portrayed strongly for 'political purposes'

Here's how bullying is linked to usage of pain medication

Recent findings have established a link between bullying and student's pain medication use.According to the findings, in a school-based survey study of all students in grades 6, 8, and 10 in Iceland, the use of pain medications was significantly higher among bullied students even when controlling for the amount of pain they felt, as well as age, gender, and socioeconomic status.As part of the study, which was published in Acta Paediatrica, a total of 10,390 students completed anonymous surveys and answered questions about bullying, pain, and pain medication use.Bullied students tend to experience more pain than their non-bullied schoolmates, the study found. Recreational sports may boost college grades: Study

Participating in recreational sports in college may not only help improve grades, but can also keep students from dropping out, a study has found. Researchers from the Michigan State University (MSU) in the US found that among nearly 1,800 students, those who played sports averaged a 3.25 grade point average at the end of their first year compared to a 3.07 GPA for those who did not play. Those who participated in recreational sports were also less likely to drop or fail any classes their first year and were 40 per cent more likely to move onto the next year, according to the study published in the Journal of College Student Retention: Research, Theory and Practice. It takes 120 credit hours to graduate with a bachelor's degree, and to graduate in four years, you need a total of 30 completed credit hours each school year. "At the end of the year, students who played sports dropped or failed a total average of six credits compared to 7.7 credits among non-playing students," said Kerri .

Five teachers booked for fake degrees in Shamli

Five teachers of government primary schools were booked for cheating and forgery in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district after their degrees were found to be fake, police said on Sunday. According to district elementary education officer Gita Verma, B.Ed certificates of the five teachers were allegedly found to be fake during an inquiry held on Saturday. The accused had submitted fake B.Ed certificates of Agra University and were employed as teachers for many years, Verma said. The UP education department has directed officials for recovery of the salary drawn by the accused during service, the officer added.
