A techie, Kanishak Kataria, from IIT Bombay, has topped the 2018 UPSC final examination, while Srushti Jayant Deshmukh has topped among women candidates, in the civil services exams the results of which were announced on Friday.
The BJP on Friday alleged that Delhi government-run schools are unable to provide quality education to children and claimed that four lakh students who failed in examinations in the last four years were not re-admitted. Addressing a press conference here, Union minister Vijay Goel said according to an RTI reply, five lakh children have failed in Delhi government-run schools in the last four years, out of them four lakh students have not been re-admitted. A few students were present in the press conference held at the Delhi BJP office which was also addressed by party MPs Ramesh Bidhuri and Parvesh Verma. No immediate reaction was available from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on the allegations levelled by the BJP leaders. Goel said according to the RTI reply, 52 per cent of students who failed in class 9 were not re-admitted. To highlight the plight of such students, he said he will hold a conclave of their parents in coming days. At present, 16 lakh students are studying in 1,028 schools .
Delhi Education minister Manish Sisodia Friday stressed on the need for social, emotional and ethical learning to end several problems throughout the world. He was speaking at the launch of Social, Emotional & Ethical (SEE) learning curriculum, developed by the Emory University under the guidance of Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama. "We are looking for solution to terror and violence through guns throughout the world. We are coming up with laws to solve them, we are entering into treaties. But none of them are helping us establish peace in the world. "In such a scenario, we need social, emotional and ethical learning. We can find a solution through SEE learning," Sisodia said. The minister said they are getting good results in government schools because of the happiness curriculum being run through stories and different activities.

A class eight student of a government school died allegedly due to a seizure attack in Rohini on Friday, police said. The deceased was identified as 13-year-old Ajay, who hails from Udaipur and was residing here with his parents in Vijay Vihar, they said. The incident took place at around 8.30 am when the boy had gone to his school's washroom. Ajay started to shiver inside the washroom and fell backwards, losing consciousness, a senior police officer said. Ajay's friend and two other students of different sections were also present in the washroom when the incident occurred, he said. The students then alerted the teachers who rushed Ajay to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead, he added. Though it appears that Ajay died of seizure attack, the exact cause of death will be ascertained based on the post-mortem report, police said.

Sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Thursday apprehended a professor of the state-run Osmania Medical College here for allegedly demanding bribe from students to pass them in examination. Based on a complaint lodged by students, a case was registered and on Thursday, searches were conducted at the office and residence of B Balaji, head of the General Medicine Department at the Osmania Medical College. The CBSE has written to the Directorate of Education (DoE) recommending disciplinary action against some government schools following instances of over 200 teachers not turning up for evaluation of board exam papers in the national capital. With over 3,500 teachers remaining absent for evaluation across the country, show cause notices to school managements have been issued and fines imposed on schools, Central Board of Secondary Education secretary Anurag Tripathi said Thursday. He said private schools have been sent notices in some cases. Tripathi said the board results for class 10 and 12 are likely to be declared by the third week of May. The official said following the instances of paper leak last year, a special app called CMTM app (Confidential Material Tracking and Monitoring) was launched this time, and it was made compulsory for all centre supervisors to send geo-tagged and time-tagged pictures of exam day processes. : Fortythree students of a government school here had to be hospitalised with symptoms of food poisoning after taking noon meal Thursday, police said. However, the condition of all the children is stable. A total of 54 students studying from class I to class III at the Sanarpalayam government elementary school took rice and eggs, and left for their respective classes, the police said. Shortly afterwards, 43 of them began vomitting in the classrooms and were taken to hospital, they said. Consumption of rotten eggs and poor quality rice were the cause of the illness, the police said quoting doctors. Police have registered a case and begun investigations.
