The ICSE-affiliated schools in Bengal have decided to resume classes from June 25, following improved weather conditions, a senior member of the Association of Head of ICSE Schools said today. The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), at a meeting yesterday, took the decision, after the issue of suspension of classes since June 20 came up, the association's general secretary of Bengal Chapter, Nabarun Dey, told PTI. "As the issue came up during the meeting that was held on a different issue yesterday, it was decided that in view of improvement in weather conditions, the schools can resume classes from Monday, and most of them are expected to do so," Dey said. The Mathura district administration has suspended 60 headmasters of basic schools in connection with alleged fake teachers recruitment case, an official said today. With the latest suspensions, which were effected yesterday, the number of headmasters suspended in the case goes up to 80. While 20 headmasters were suspended on Thursday, 60 were suspended on Friday late evening, said Mukesh Agrawal, principal, District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Mathura. He said, in the fake teacher recruitment probe, prima facie, the suspended headmasters have been held responsible for allowing the "fake" teachers to join duty in their schools without checking their records properly. "Also these headmasters did not give proper information to the team sent by the basic education director to check the records," he said. The Bihar government has ordered suspension of academic activities upto standard 8 in all schools in Patna till June 26 in view of the prevailing sweltering weather condition, a top official said. Patna district magistrate Kumar Ravi said all government and private schools of Patna will remain closed till June 26 due to heatwave like conditions prevailing in Patna for past several days. The classes will be held between 6:45 am to 11 am for class 9 to 12 . This is the third time when the district administration has extended suspension of academic activity in schools due to the heatwave like conditions. Private schools in the state capital were slated to open on June 18 after the summer vacation but it was extended due to prolonged heatwave conditions arising out of the delay in the arrival of the monsoon. The southwest monsoon is now expected to reach Bihar in the next two to three days after being delayed by a fortnight, a Met office bulletin said.

West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee today said the state government will not allow student unions to meddle into the admission process to under graduate streams in colleges. "We will not tolerate any irregularities in admission. There should not be any role of the student unions in the whole admission process," Chatterjee told reporters on the sidelines of a programme here. He said any laxity on the part of college principals to prevent entry of unions into the admission process and failure to ensure transparency in the whole procedure "will be strictly dealt with". Chatterjee was asked to comment on reports that two groups of students were involved in a clash in front of Dinabandhu Andrews College here yesterday, the first day of admission. The clashes broke out after both the groups tried to intervene in the admission procedure by approaching the applicants, police said. The minister said appropriate action had been taken with regard to the incident.

Four engineering students were today feared drowned in river Krishna, near here, the police said. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel have launched operations to trace them. Police said the students of a private college came to Pavitra Sangamam, the confluence point of the Godavari and Krishna, along with another classmate, for a visit. As one of them tried to get down into the river, he accidentally slipped and was washed away. Three others tried to rescue him but the force of the water pulled them also into the river, a police official said. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed grief over the incident. Krishna district in charge collector Vijaya Krishnan has rushed to the spot to oversee rescue operations, the police added.

A brainchild of students from KCJ College of Engineering, Chennai, the device makes life easier for dyslexic kids who find it difficult to read, write or interpret words, letters and other symbols. A student of Class 9 was found dead in a school here on Friday.As per the police, the victim was killed in a scuffle with another student of the same school.The body of the victim was found near a toilet inside the school premises."Two students had a fight, one of whom has died. We do not know the motive behind the murder; we are checking the CCTV footage. The Madras High Court today made it clear that Aadhaar card and its photocopy are compulsory during counselling to medical admissions in Tamil Nadu. Justice N Kirubakaran was passing interim orders on petitions alleging that students from outside Tamil Nadu were admitted to medical courses without any scrutiny of the genuineness of their nativity. The judge directed authorities of medical education in Tamil Nadu to insist on production of Aadhaar cards. The petitioners alleged that many students from other states have been allotted MBBS seats in Tamil Nadu based on nativity certificates obtained fraudulently, while adversely affecting the scope of students from Tamil Nadu to get admitted to the courses. Universities should constitute a 'campus safety team' to apprise students and faculty about the latest acts and programmes on women's safety as well as a dedicated campus police force to work with them, a committee set up by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal recommended. The report also recommended installing a helpline in buses directly linked to the police control room and providing vending zones so that hawkers do not encroach on pavements. The Maharashtra Government today warned colleges of stringent action if they charged more than half the prescribed fees to the students whose family income is below Rs 8 lakh per annum. Under the Rajarshee Shahu Educational Fee Scholarship scheme, the government bears 50 per cent of the fee burden of these students by transferring the money directly to colleges. A government statement said that the Director of Technical Education has been instructed to take strict action against the institutes taking excess fee from such students. Revenue Minister Chandrakant Patil said the government pays half the fees of students seeking admission to agriculture, medicine and 605 other professional courses under the scheme. But there were complaints that some colleges were still demanding full fees from the students whose parental income is less than Rs 8 lakh per annum, or denying admission if the full fee was not paid, he said.
The Himachal Pradesh government will impart training to 3180 youngsters during the current financial year to assist them in finding suitable jobs, a senior official said today.
