A day after it ended its sit-in at lieutenant governor's office, the AAP dispensation today announced introduction of a "happiness curriculum" in Delhi's government schools from the coming academic session. The "happiness curriculum" is ready and it will be launched by the Dalai Lama on July 2, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said. "The curriculum will be taught to around eight lakh students from nursery up to class 8 students of all the Delhi government schools from July," he told reporters. The final draft of the curriculum was approved at a meeting chaired by Sisodia, who is also the education minister in the Kejriwal government. The curriculum will include meditation, moral values and mental exercises and its core idea is to produce "sarvagun sampann" (versatile) "professionals and human beings who could serve the society with happiness", the Deputy CM said. Teachers of government schools from across the country can now directly send their entries for National Award, Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar announced today. Till last year, entries for the award were selected by the state governments. "In the new system, government school teachers or principals can nominate themselves online. Three teachers will be selected from every district and ultimately six teachers will be selected from every state. An independent jury at national level will select 50 outstanding teachers/ heads of schools for the National Award. Teachers can also upload the videos of their work done," Javadekar told reporters here. The jury will select the best teachers for the award on the basis of their style of teachings and innovations and revolutionary changes in education system.
The Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh police has arrested 16 people for their involvement in a fake teacher recruitment racket in Mathura, police said. Those arrested included the kingpin of the gang, Mahesh Sharma, 9 government teachers, four brokers and two computer operators of Basic Siksha Adhikari (BSA), Prabhakar Chaudhary, SSP, Mathura said. He did not rule out the arrest of more people involved in the racket. "One computer, four lakh cash and nine bogus appointment letters were recovered in the raid conducted at their office in Mathura, he said. The process of recruitment began in Mathura after an alleged order from the Director, Basic Education, Lucknow stated that those who couldn't join their duty earlier, on the basis of an appointment letter, may be allowed to join now. A school teacher in Jajpur district was today booked on the charge of proposing a class 10 student of the school and touching her inappropriately during private tuition sessions, police said. The 45-year-old teacher of a government run school in Barachana block had asked the girl's parents to send their daughter for tuition to him separately so that he could focus on her, police said. The parents agreed as she is class 10 and the teacher was from the school where she studies, Inspector-in-charge of Barachana police station Sarat Chandra Patra said, quoting from the FIR lodged in this connection. But during tuition classes, the teacher who is father of two children, proposed the 15-year-old girl several times and she turned down his proposal every time. "On Monday last, the teacher promised her help during examinations if she accepts his proposal. But she again rejected him," Patra said adding that he also allegedly touched her inappropriately that day. The girl narrated .

The Charity Commissioner of Maharashtra has appealed to the Ganesh mandals to bear the educational expenses of children from economically weaker sections of the society. "I held a meeting with the Ganesh mandals here yesterday, wherein I appealed to them to bear the educational expenses of students from economically weaker sections. There are large number of students from the farming community as well," Shivkumar Dige, Charity Commissioner of Maharashtra told PTI today. A leading Indian-origin academic has gone strike against tutoring students from King's College London after its staff members allegedly refused to address her as "Doctor". Priyamvada Gopal, a Cambridge University fellow specialising in post-colonial literature, described the incident as part of "consistently racist aggression and profiling" from porters at King's College. As many as 42,000 copies of the Class 10 examination have disappeared from one of the evaluation centres in Bihar's Gopalganj a day before the declaration of results by the Bihar School Examination Board.The principal of S. S. Thousands of answer scripts of candidates who took Matric examinations, conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) this year, went missing from the strong room of a school where these were kept after evaluation, the BSEB said today. The declaration of results for Matriculation, which was scheduled for tomorrow, has now been deferred to June 26, the BSEB said in a statement released here. Algeria's education minister says the Algerian government is taking the "extreme measure" of temporarily suspending the entire country's internet connection during national high school exams to stop cheating and the leaking of answers. Nouria Benghabrit today told Algerian national radio that the internet, including social networks such as Facebook, will be blocked during for the first hour of each baccalaureate exam during the June 20-25 exam period. The decision comes after massive online leaks of the baccalaureate, the last mandatory high school exam, in the previous two years. Benghabrit said, "We have put in place a technical device that consists of suspending the internet connection and block social networks from Wednesday to prevent the leaking of baccalaureate subjects." In its reply to a notice by the Delhi Minorities Commission, the JNU administration has said no course on "Islamic terrorism" was proposed in the academic council meeting of the university, DMC chairman Zafarul Islam Khan said today. JNU registrar Pramod Kumar has said "there was no course on 'Islamic terror' proposed in the academic council," Khan said. Taking cognizance of media reports, the commission last month issued a notice to JNU asking for reasons to start the proposed course. The registrar provided DMC with a copy of a concept paper on the proposed 'Centre for National Security Studies' and said JNU has no knowledge if a course on "Islamic terrorism" is taught in any Indian or foreign university, Khan said. Six boys studying class IX in a school here have gone missing, sending the parents and police into a tizzy. The students of StLawrence School at Kamakshipalya left their homes last eveningsaying they were going for tuition, but have not returned, police said today.
