The government has extended the registration deadline for the Swachh Bharat Summer Internship till June 15. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the internship during his 'Mann Ki Baat' address on April 29. "Students of higher education institutions and members of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan can now register for the internship till June 15. Earlier, the last date for registration was till May 15. "The extension has been given to facilitate the youth across the country, particularly those in colleges who would be pre-occupied with academic matters and examinations," a government statement read. Students and NYKS youths can sign up for the Swachh Bharat Summer Internship by logging on to the portal www.sbsi.mygov.in. The interns would be required to complete at least 100 hours of sanitation-related work in villages which would qualify them for 'Swachh Bharat Certificates'.

The Aligarh Muslim University Students' Union (AMUSU) will intensify its protest demanding action against Hindu right-wing activists who trespassed into the varsity on May 2 seeking the removal of Pakistan founder M A Jinnah's portrait from the campus. The decision was taken at a meeting of the AMUSU general body here last night, its spokesperson said today. President of the students' union, Mashkoor Ahmad Usmani, secretary Mohammad Fahad and former president of the students union Faizul Hasan joined the indefinite hunger strike yesterday. AMUSU leaders had also held a meeting with senior district officials in a bid to end the two-week-long protests on the campus. The students' union also demanded action against the police officers responsible for a lathi charge on students on May 2. Delhi High Court today issued notices to Centre and Delhi government in regard to Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking free education to students belonging to Disadvantaged Group (DG) and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).The PIL was filed seeking the amendment in Right To Education (RTE) Act, 2009 to provide free education in unaided schools beyond class VIII and up to class XII.The next date of hearing in this matter is scheduled for September 26.Currently, students admitted under RTE around the country are facing the threat of discontinuing their studies after Class VIII."The very objective of RTE of allowing DG/EWS students to study in unaided schools would be defeated if they are not allowed to continue studies up to class XII and complete their schooling", argued Advocate Ashok Agarwal, who also happens to be the petitioner.

Five students, including three girls, allegedly committed suicide today in various districts of Madhya Pradesh apparently for either failing or not doing well in the MP board examinations for classes 10 and 12, the results of which were announced today. The deceased include four students of class 10 and one student of class 12, police said. Besides, two girls allegedly tried to kill themselves in Chhindwara and Damoh districts, but survived the attempt. Two deceased hailed each from Bhopal and Sehore districts while one hailed from Ujjain district, according to police. "Bhavna Raikwar (17) hanged herself in the kitchen of her house in Bhoipura locality in Bhopal for failing class 10 exam," said Taliya police station inspector Karan Singh. Abhijnan Chakraborty who topped the ICSE Class 12 examination in the country today gave credit of his stellar success to his mother, a businesswoman. Chakraborty, a student of Lilavatibai Podar High School in the city, scored aggregate of 99.5%. "I practiced with proper planning and did hard work as much as I could do. During all these days, my mother who is a businesswomen, constantly inspired me and gave useful instruction to follow my studies. I give my first credit to her only," he said. Girls outshone boys in the merit list of class 10 and 12 examinations conducted by the Madhya Pradesh education board, results for which were announced today. The overall pass percentage stood at 66.54% and 68.07% for class 10 and class 12, respectively. A total of 98 girls and 83 boys figured on the merit list for class 10, while 71 girls and 62 boys for class 12. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the results were better compared to the last year.
The Madras High Court has said an education loan of more than Rs 4 lakh cannot be demanded as a right, without any security, and that its sanction is covered by bank guidelines. Justice S Vaidyanathan passed the order recently, while disposing of a plea filed by R Sanskrit, seeking a direction to the Pallikaranai branch of the Indian Bank here, for sanctioning an education loan of Rs 63.90 lakh towards the revised tuition fee for her MBBS course in a private medical college. According to the petitioner, she had applied for the loan in 2016, but it was not processed by the bank. She had received Rs 6 lakh as scholarship for pursuing the medical course. According to the counsel for the Shri Sathya Sai Medical College & Research Institute, the petitioner was admitted to the institute in the 2016-2017 academic year. She had given a joint declaration, along with her father, to pay the Rs 18,90,000 tuition fee as well as the annual hostel and application fees, the counsel said. However,
