Tamil Nadu government today declared the results for the Class XII exams held in March, with 91 per cent of the students emerging successful. Girls continued to outshine boys, with 94.1 per cent of them clearing the exams, which was 6.4 per cent more than that of the number of boys, according to statistics released by the state government. Around 9.07 lakh students had registered for the exams that were held from March 1 to April 6 this year. Among the districts that fared well, Virudhunagar topped the list, followed by Erode and Tirupur. Subject-wise, more number of students (96.4 percent) cleared Physics, followed by Chemistry, Biology and Maths. As many as 2,110 differently-abled students of the 2,602 who appeared for the exams came out in flying colours.
Delhi University affiliated St Stephen's College has announced that admissions to its undergraduate courses will begin on May 21. "Applications for undergraduate admissions will be available online from May 21 onwards," said a notification issued by the college. Being a religious minority college, St. Stephen's follows a different admission process, however, students first have to register themselves in the Delhi University admission portal along with an admission fee. After a form number is generated, a student can apply to the college online using his/her email ID. Later, students, who clear the cut-offs, will also have to take up a written test and an interview, unlike admission to other undergraduate colleges. Delhi University began registration process for admissions to undergraduate courses offered by its affiliated colleges yesterday.

Madhya Pradesh government has announced that from now onwards, it is mandatory for the school students in the state to answer their roll-call with "Jai Hind".The education department stated that this step will instil a sense of patriotism among the students, read an official statement.Earlier in November 2017, Madhya Pradesh School Education Minister Vijay Shah said now students would answer to roll-calls by saying "Jai Hind" instead of "yes sir" and "yes ma'am".He had said that the step would be enforced in all 1.22 lakh government schools, and an advisory in this regard would also be issued to all private schools.
The principal of a cadet college in Mastung in Pakistan's Baluchistan province was arrested after a video of students being subjected to hard corporal punishment went viral on the social media. DIG Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Aitzaz Goraya informed the Baluchistan High Court bench yesterday that the principal, Javed Iqbal Bangash, was placed under arrest. The court had ordered the police to arrest the principal soon after taking notice of the video in which students in red uniforms can been seen being caned mercilessly by some persons out in grounds of the college. Some of the students can be seen yelling with pain and trying to escape the caning. The incident, which had allegedly taken place on the principal's orders on May 9, was taken up by the court after a petition was filed. Goraya said that search was on for the other persons who administrated the punishment and all students had undergone medical examination. The court ordered the arrest of all the accused and asked for .
The government has extended the registration deadline for the Swachh Bharat Summer Internship till June 15. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the internship during his 'Mann Ki Baat' address on April 29. "Students of higher education institutions and members of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan can now register for the internship till June 15. Earlier, the last date for registration was till May 15. "The extension has been given to facilitate the youth across the country, particularly those in colleges who would be pre-occupied with academic matters and examinations," a government statement read. Students and NYKS youths can sign up for the Swachh Bharat Summer Internship by logging on to the portal www.sbsi.mygov.in. The interns would be required to complete at least 100 hours of sanitation-related work in villages which would qualify them for 'Swachh Bharat Certificates'.

The Delhi High Court today sought the response of the Centre and the AAP government in the national capital on a PIL seeking free education for students from the economically weaker sections (EWS) and disadvantaged groups (DG), up to class 12, in private unaided schools. A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar issued notice to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and the Delhi government and sought their replies to the plea filed by an NGO, which has claimed that the students admitted in private unaided schools under the EWS and DG categories are being asked to pay the fee or leave after they complete Class 8. The NGO, Social Jurist, in its petition filed through advocate Ashok Agarwal, has sought an amendment to the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009 to provide free education to poor and disadvantaged kids, up to Class 12, in the private unaided schools. The Aligarh Muslim University Students' Union (AMUSU) will intensify its protest demanding action against Hindu right-wing activists who trespassed into the varsity on May 2 seeking the removal of Pakistan founder M A Jinnah's portrait from the campus. The decision was taken at a meeting of the AMUSU general body here last night, its spokesperson said today. President of the students' union, Mashkoor Ahmad Usmani, secretary Mohammad Fahad and former president of the students union Faizul Hasan joined the indefinite hunger strike yesterday. AMUSU leaders had also held a meeting with senior district officials in a bid to end the two-week-long protests on the campus. The students' union also demanded action against the police officers responsible for a lathi charge on students on May 2. At least six people were injured when the police lobbed teargas shells to disperse the protesting students.
