The Rajasthan government has decided to equip 5,000 schools in the state with computer labs, Education Minister Vasudev Devnani has said. The minister made the announcement at a press conference here yesterday. "Computer labs will be opened in 5,000 schools in Rajasthan and 60,000 teachers in the state are being provided computer training," he said, adding that 28,000 laptops are being distributed to meritorious students. Devnani said that 7,250 schools are being upgraded from primary to middle, middle to secondary and secondary to senior secondary institutes. "More than 5,000 schools have been upgraded and now, every gram panchayat headquarter will be have one senior secondary school," the minister said. Over 70,000 teachers will be appointed soon, he said. The minister also announced that 55 schools here will have smart class rooms. "Bharat Darshan" galleries will be opened in schools. These will have photos, posters, write-ups and other material from which students can learn about .

A second year fine arts student of a private university here has claimed physical assault and ragging by his seniors from engineering stream, with the varsity officials saying the accused students have been suspended and a report of the case sent to the University Grants Commission (UGC). The student alleged that he was "brutally" beaten by the seniors on April 5 within the campus premises in a bid to "rag" him and was threatened with dire consequences. A complaint in this regard was made by the student's sister to the anti ragging cell of the UGC. The Haryana government has made a provision of Rs 10 crore to support students studying in colleges and universities for launching their own start-ups, Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma said today. Addressing the students after inaugurating the start-up Incubator-cum-Center of Excellence at Government Post-Graduate College in Panchkula, near here, he said this was the first-of-its kind centre set up in the state. "It is an important step towards realisation of vision of Digital India of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The youth does not lack talent, it has to be recognized appropriately," he added. The CBSE today announced that the Class 10 and Class 12 examinations that were postponed in Punjab due to the 'Bharat bandh' on April 2 will now be conducted on April 27. At the request of the state government in view of bandh called by several Dalit organisations against the alleged dilution of the SCs/STs (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had postponed the exams scheduled on April 2. It has been decided to conduct the cancelled examination in Punjab on April 27. The roll numbers and examination centres already allotted to the students will remain the same, said K K Chaudhury, Controller of Examinations, CBSE. While Class 12 students were supposed to appear for the Hindi exam, language exams of French, Sanskrit and Urdu were scheduled for Class 10 on that day. The students, who are in the age group of 17-21 years, are all packed to leave for Kathmandu and start the expedition to live their mountainous dream. Three people were arrested on Monday after a nursery student in Meerpet town of Telangana was allegedly thrashed by his school teacher for a delay in payment of fees.The parents of the four-year-old boy studying in Krishnaveni Talent School are demanding justice following this incident."A case has been registered. Fourth-graders made no improvements in math or reading, while eighth-graders' scores were flat in math and only slightly improved in reading, according to results released today on the National Assessment of Educational Progress. Overall, only roughly a third of American eighth-graders are proficient in reading and math along with about 40 per cent of fourth-graders. The figures are in line with recent trends. Students made big gains in the 1990s and early 2000s, but there have been no major improvements since then. The results show that racial disparities persist. African-American students were out-performed by their white peers at both grade levels.
