A drive has been launched in Ganjam district to improve the enrolment of students in Class 1. The campaign, christened as 'Prabesh Utsav', began yesterday and would continue till April 6. The HRD ministry today decided against conducting a re-examination of the CBSE Class 10 mathematics paper following reports of paper leak, in the "interest of students". "Consequent to a preliminary evaluation of the impact of the reportedly leaked CBSE class 10 maths paper & keeping in mind the paramount interest of students, the CBSE has decided not to conduct a re-examination, even in the states of Delhi NCR and Haryana. Hence, no re-exam for class 10," Education Secretary, Anil Swarup said. The ministry had last week announced that the re-examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 economics paper would be held on April 25. It had said the Class 10 mathematics re-test, if required, would be conducted only for Delhi-NCR and Haryana in July. The announcement had come after the board received complaints that question papers of two subjects were leaked.

The Delhi Police are suspecting that the CBSE question papers might have been leaked from neighbouring Haryana, a senior official privy to the probe said today. The police were investigating whether some schools in Sonepat, Jhajjar and Bahadurgarh were also involved in the leak of Class 10 mathematics paper and Class 12 economics paper of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), he said. "We are probing that angle. It is suspected that some schools and even some CBSE official might be involved in the matter. But we cannot say anything with surety at the moment," the official said. "The papers were mostly circulated in outer Delhi and areas bordering Haryana. This indicated that the origin of the leak might be in Haryana or there was some collusion from there," he said. An University Teachers' body today called a ceasework by teachers in Jadavpur University on April 6 in protest against the Centre's alleged move to privatise and commercialise higher education sector. All Bengal University Teachers' Association (ABUTA) JU Convenor Goutam Maity said, the teachers' ceasework has been called to safeguard the interest of public-funded universities and press for the withdrawal of the graded autonomy regulation of the University Grants Commission (UGC). A scam in the distribution of scholarship for minority community was unearthed today in Assam's Morigon district where a person misappropriated Rs 28 lakh by opening bank accounts in the names of fake students, the police said. Morigaon superintendent of police, Swapnanil Deka told reporters here that the person in Bhuragaon revenue circle misappropriated the fund by opening 250 fake accounts in different nationalised banks in the district and siphoned off the scholarship money in the past one month meant for poor minority community students studying in high schools. Police have arrested the man, who runs a customer service point of a nationalised bank, todayunder charges of misappropriating education department scholarship money sanctioned by the central government, he said. The Assam government today introduced a Bill in the Assembly to bring Madrassas of the state under the prevailing statutory norms and standards and to restrict growth of such institutions. On behalf of Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary introduced The Assam Madrassa Education (Provincialisation of Services of Employees and Re-Organisation of Madrassa Educational Institutions) Bill, 2018. In his statement of objects and reasons, Sarma said the Bill is brought so that the Madrassa schools conform to the prevailing statutory norms and standards, and it also has "a further objective to restrict any further growth of such venture Madrassa educational institutions in the state".
