A "false propaganda" is being carried out in Maharashtra over the closure of 1,300 schools with low enrollment in the state, Education Minister Vinod Tawde said today. A few months ago, the government decided to close down over 1,300 zila parishad (ZP)-run schools owing to the reduced number of students and poor education standards. The move drew criticism from various quarters. Defending the decision, Tawde said some of these schools had just a couple of students and it was not viable for the government to run them. Students from these schools are being adjusted in nearly schools, the minister said, adding a "false propaganda" is being carried over the issue. Some political leaders with vested interest made a "hue and cry out" over the issue and are misleading people, he said. In the wake of the recent CBSE question paper leaks row, the Central Board of Secondary Education issued a notification, presaging students against the circulation of a fake class X Sanskrit question paper that is doing the rounds on social media."It has been brought to notice that a question paper of Class X - Sanskrit is being circulated on social media through Youtube link. This question paper is verified to be an earlier year's question paper. Students are hereby alerted not to believe or subscribe to any such sites," said a press release by the CBSE.The leaks of class XII Economics and Class X Mathematics question papers have caused quite the ruckus, with the board having to re-schedule those two examinations, which in turn has enraged students nationwide.The re-examination for class XII Economics has been scheduled by the board for April 25, while no confirmed date has been announced for the re-exam for class X Mathematics.
The Delhi Police Crime Branch on Sunday arrested three more people from here in connection with Central Board of Secondary Education's (CBSE's) Class X and XII papers leak case.Among the arrested persons, are the owner of a coaching centre, Touqeer and two teachers of a private school identified as Rishabh and Rohit.According to the police, Rishabh and Rohit passed the Economics question paper of Class XII to Touqeer, who later circulated the same among the students.The teachers opened the paper 30 minutes before the exam, clicked the picture and forwarded the same to the coaching owner.Earlier on Saturday, the Delhi Police sent three teams to schools, exam centers and residences of students in outer Delhi to investigate the case.More than 60 people have been questioned till now, out of which 10 are tutors of coaching centers. Three people, including two teachers of a private school in outer Delhi's Bawana, were arrested by the Delhi Crime Branch in connection with the alleged leak of the Class 12 CBSE economics paper, police said today. The accused were identified as Rishabh and Rohit, teachers at a private school, and Touqeer, a tutor at a coaching centre in Bawana, they said. Touqeer had allegedly leaked the economics paper half an hour before the exam and sent it to the teachers on WhatsApp, the police said. The Delhi Police had registered two cases in connection with the leaks. The first case relating to the leak of the economics paper was lodged on March 27 and the other pertaining to the mathematics paper was lodged on March 28, following a complaint by the regional director of the CBSE. A sum of Rs 7.044 crore would be spent on education during 2018-19, which is the highest allocation in the budget, Education minister Suresh Bharadwaj said today. The Delhi Police today received a reply from Google which identified the e-mail address from where the CBSE chairperson was sent a mail about the Class 10 mathematics paper being leaked, an official privy to the probe said. The officer of the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police said a Class 10 student had received the mathematics paper on WhatsApp and he had used his father's e-mail ID to send the mail to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) chairperson. The Allahabad High Court has issued notices to the CBSE and the ICSE to file their response on a PIL seeking to regulate exorbitant fees charged by self-financed private schools. The HC has sought the response from the boards within four weeks. The matter would come up for hearing after service of notices to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE).
