The government on Tuesday said no re-examination of the Class 10 maths paper will be conducted anywhere in the country, bringing major relief to nearly two lakh CBSE Class 10 students in Delhi, NCR and Haryana.

Two city universities find place among the list of top

The City-based Bharathiar University is ranked 13th among Indian Universities and 20th under the overall categories of NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) of Ranking of 2018 of Union Ministry of Human Resources and Development. The university is the only State University under Arts and Science category to top the list of NIRF, a varsity release said here today. This achievement was due to consistent teaching and research activities, it said. Another city-based Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has emerged as the 8th best university among the Indian Universities, the only private university to appear in the top 10 list. "It is a wonderful outcome of the visionary leadership of the world-renowned humanitarian leader Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, in setting the dual goals of education for life and compassion-driven research, the university vice-chancellor, Dr P Venkat Rangan said in a release.

IIT-M bags top honours for the third time in a row

Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, here has emerged as the Top-Ranked Engineering Institute in the country for the third consecutive year. The premier educational institute was declared as the number one among the Engineering institutes in the India Rankings, 2018, by National Institutional Rankings Framework (NIRF) of the Ministry of HRD, a press release said. "The ranking is an affirmation of the consistent hard work of our faculty, staff and students and the zeal with which we are implementing and exceeding the targets of our Strategic Plan 2020", IIT Madras Director professor Bhaskar Ramamurthi said in the release. Students act of insulting teacher deplorable: Kerala CM

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today said the government would take stern action against the students who insulted the retiring woman principal of a college in Kasargod district last month. Vijayan was replaying to a submission by opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala who brought to the notice of the assembly the incident related to bursting of crackers and display of posters with writings 'condolence' in the campus as a farewell to the retiring College Principal P V Pushpaja. Number of DU colleges among India's top 10 in HRD ministry ranking dips

Five Delhi University colleges have made it to the list of top 10 colleges in the country under the HRD Ministry's national ranking framework released today. Last year, six colleges under the Delhi University had figured in the top 10 list. While Miranda House has been ranked number one yet again, St Stephens College, which participated in the ranking for the first time, has bagged second rank. Hindu College, which did not participate in the rankings last year, is at the fifth position in the top 10 list. Bishop Heber College at Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu, which was at fourth position last year, has bagged third rank this year. The ranking of Loyola College in Chennai has dipped from second to sixth position. MBBS student found hanging in hostel of BRD medical college

A fourth year MBBS student of Baba Raghav Das Medical College here was found hanging from the ceiling fan of a hostel room here today, the police said. "Sumit Siddharth, a 2014 batch MBBS student, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in room number 119 at new UG hostel and it appears that he took the extreme step out of depression," Principal of the medical college Ganesh Kumar said. According to some students, Siddharth was upset over something since the last few days and had not appeared for an exam on Monday. However, no suicide note was found, the police said. The body has been sent for post mortem, SP city Vinay Kumar Singh said. The principal said that Siddharth's parents in Lucknow have been informed about the incident.

Haryana education dept makes wearing helmets compulsory for students

Haryana Higher Education Department has made wearing of helmets and fastening of seatbelts in cars mandatory for all college students even when they are inside the campus. The decision was taken in a review meeting of Road Safety Programme held under the chairmanship of Dr Rakesh Gupta, Additional Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Haryana, an official spokesman said. Those students who would not abide by the rules would not be allowed to enter the campus, he said. The spokesman said the director general of Higher Education Department has issued directions to the principals of all government, government aided private and self-funded colleges for strict compliance.

CBSE not to conduct class 10 re-test; says it's internal segment of edu system

The HRD ministry today decided against conducting a re-examination of the CBSE class 10 mathematics paper following reports of paper leak, with the board saying that class 10 was just an "internal segment" of school education system. Education Secretary Anil Swarup had earlier in the day said, "Consequent to a preliminary evaluation of the impact of the reportedly leaked CBSE class 10 maths paper & keeping in mind the paramount interest of students, the CBSE has decided not to conduct a re-examination, even in the states of Delhi NCR and Haryana. Hence, no re-exam for class 10". In a later statement, the Central Board of Secondary education (CBSE) said, "Class X examination is essentially a gateway for class XI and thus remains largely an internal segment of school education". "On the other hand, class XII exams are a gateway to higher education and various professional competitive exams which have limited seats...therefore, giving undue advantage of to a handful of beneficiaries .

CBSE paper leak: Court sends all accused to police custody

A Delhi Court on Tuesday sent all the accused in the CBSE paper leak case, to two-day police custody.On Sunday, two teachers of a private school - Rishabh and Rohit - along with a tutor of a coaching centre, Touqeer were arrested for their alleged involvement in leaking class 12 Economics paper.The teachers allegedly opened the paper 30 minutes before the exam, clicked the picture and forwarded the same to the tutor.More than 60 people have been questioned till now, out of which 10 are tutors of coaching centres. Also, more than 50 cell phones of students and tutors have been seized.The CBSE also cracked a whip on its officials and suspended one with immediate effect for lax supervision in an examination centre (0859).The question papers of class XII Economics and class X Mathematics exams held on March 26 and March 28 respectively, were leaked on Whatsapp.

Enrolment drive to improve admission of students in schools

A drive has been launched in Ganjam district to improve the enrolment of students in Class 1. The campaign, christened as 'Prabesh Utsav', began yesterday and would continue till April 6. Teachers, volunteers and members of the panchayats, including the sarpanch and ward members, will be involved in the drive. It mainly involves organising rallies in villages, said district education officer (DEO) and district project coordinator of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Sanatan Panda. April 6 will be celebrated as 'full attendance' day, he said. After taking admission in Class 1, the students will be given text books on April 6. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will not re-conduct the examination of Class 10 Maths paper, which was leaked online on March 28, just hours before it was conducted throughout the country.in view of opposition to its earlier consideration, the CBSE has decided not to conduct the exam in the states of Delhi NCR and Haryana, Human Resource and Develop Ministry Secretary (Education) Anil Swarup tweeted on Tuesday.Swarup said the decision was taken by keeping in mind the paramount "interest of students"."Consequent to the preliminary evaluation of the impact of reportedly leaked CBSE class 10 Maths paper and keeping in mind the paramount interest of students, CBSE has decided not to conduct re-examination even in the states of Delhi NCR and Haryana. Bridge gap between rural and urban education: Kakodkar

The aim of higher education should be to use local resources and provide students an easy access to knowledge and content, noted nuclear scientist Anil Kakodkar has said. He suggested reducing reliance on foreign education and products, and using indigenous resources more. Kakodkar called for bridging the gap between rural and urban education so that students can apply their academic skills in their surroundings.
