'Venom' not part of Marvel Cinematic Universe, confirms Joe Russo
"Avengers: Infinity War" co-director Joe Russo has confirmed that Tom Hardy's Venom, one of the most popular Marvel Comics antihero, is not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking to school students at Iowa City High, the filmmaker was asked whether "Venom" would become a part of the MCU, to which he replied, "No, that's a Sony property." The Sony project also features Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams and Jenny Slate, reported Reddit. Directed by Ruben Fleischer, it is scheduled to release on October 5.

International children's theatre festival in city
Children of various theatre groups from eight countries besides host India will take part in an International Children's Theatre Festival in the city next month, organisers said today. The eight countries are France, Slovenia, Swaziland, Mexico, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh, festival committee president and former minister Madan Mitra said. Children of theatre groups from Indian states such as Kerala, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Manipur, Odisha and West Bengal will also be participating in the five-day festival at the Academy of Fine Arts from June 17 to 21. The festival, organised by the 'Kolkata Eso Natak Shikhi', is based on the theme "Safe Drive Save Life, Save Kids' Life," said Mitra, also Trinamool Congress leader. "There will be no entry free. The festival will be open for everybody," said Mitra, who along with theatre personality Debshankar Halder, also unveiled the festival poster and a website.

Eminent Odia lyricist Gurukrushna Goswami passed away here today following prolonged illness, family members said. Goswami died at his residence in Tulasipur area. He was 84. Goswami had penned a large number of folk, devotional and modern songs in a career spanning over five decades. He is survived by wife Arati Goswami and two sons. Artistes from the Odia music industry, in large numbers, thronged the Satichoura crematorium here and bade him a tearful farewell. Singers such as Mohammed Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar had lent their voices to songs written by Goswami for Odia films.

'Bioscopewala' release to coincide with Tagore's birth anniversary
The makers of "Bioscopewala", an extrapolation of Rabindranath Tagore's "Kabuliwala", said they decided to release the film this month to pay tributes to the Nobel laureate on his 157th birth anniversary. Tagore's birth anniversary falls on May 7, while the film will release on May 25. "This film is our humble tribute and respect to the Nobel Prize-winning author. We wanted to commemorate his 157th Birthday by coinciding the release of our film 'Bioscopewala', an adaptation of ageless Bengali classic story, 'Kabuliwala'," producer Sunil Doshi said in a statement. "Waiting for a few more months to release the film based on his story, was a decision I took as a mark of respect to him and the enormous literature and stories he created," he added.
