Padmavati: Push for complete ban,Karni Sena chief to community

Shri Rajput Karni Sena chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi today called upon the community members to gather in Chittorgarh on January 27 and push for a complete ban on the controversial Sanjay Leela Bhansali film 'Padmavati'. "Members of the Rajput community will gather in Chittorgarh on January 27 to give a clear message that the sacrifice of Rani Padmavati has not gone in vein. Anyone who supports our call of banning the film can join us in Chittorgarh," Kalvi said at a press conference here. He said that they will not let the film to be released at any cost. Book on 50 years of Beatles' India visit to hit stores in Feb

A book featuring rare photographs of The Beatles clicked by Emmy award-winning producer-director Paul Saltzman during the iconic group's India visit 50 years ago will hit stores next month. Titled "The Beatles in India", the book celebrates 50 years of the band's famous trip to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Ashram in Rishikesh. During their visit, The Beatles studied transcendental meditation, and wrote some of their most memorable music. No other person, except Saltzman, was allowed to photograph the group which had John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison. The book, published by Simon & Schuster India, also contains a detailed narrative by Saltzman about the story of how "Dear Prudence" came to be and Harrison's description of the first time he picked up a sitar. Harrison's former wife Pattie Boyd has written the foreword for the book. After parting ways with the legendary guitarist, Boyd married musician Eric Clapton.

A consultative committee of the information and broadcasting ministry has pitched for more representation of regional films at IFFI. In a meeting chaired by Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani, the committee also proposed for organising socially inclined film festivals like 'kisan' (farmer) film festival, according to an official release. The meeting was held to discuss the efforts taken by the ministry in organising International Film Festival of India (IFFI) last year and the steps to be taken to improve its next edition. Irani apprised the committee that for the first time, IFFI officially collaborated with Toronto and Venice Film Festivals. She said that in IFFI 2017, 197 films were screened and 493 delegates invited, besides expanding the steering committee and preview committees of the festival.
