Say it through a love story: Anurag Kashyap on 'Mukkabaaz'

Anurag Kashyap, the man behind gritty dramas exploring the dark worlds of criminals and gangsters, says he has learnt that the way to an Indian cine goer's heart is through a love story. But in true Kashyap style, his first love story, the upcoming "Mukkabaaz", blurs cinematic genres with a romance that unfolds in a society dominated by caste, politics and religion. "I have learnt that in India whatever you have to say, say it through a love story. This is what people understand. This is my first full love story," Kashyap told PTI in an interview. The film, starring Vineet Kumar Singh and Zoya Hussain, has been receiving praise even before its release later this month. In the drama set in Bareilly, Vineet plays a Kshatriya wrestler who falls in love with a deaf-mute Brahmin woman. This angers her uncle (Jimmy Sheirgill) who uses his position as the head of the state boxing federation to sabotage his career. Kashyap, who described "Mukkabaaz" as his first "prem pradhan"

Mira Sorvino to guest star in 'Modern Family'

Actor Mira Sorvino will have a guest appearance in an upcoming episode of "Modern Family". The Oscar-winning actor will play the role of Nicole Rosemary Page, who is the founder of lifestyle brand named Nerp. The episode will air on January 17, reported Entertainment Weekly. Sorvino, who won an Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Woody Allen's "Mighty Aphrodite", is one of the women who have accused media mogul Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment. Netflix greenlights 'Bright' sequel

Despite scathing reviews, the streaming giant Netflix has officially greenlit a sequel to 'Bright', which starred Will Smith and Joel Edgerton in lead roles.According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has announced that David Ayer will write and direct the sequel, with Smith and Edgerton expected to return as, respectively, an LAPD officer and his orc partner. Goa to host third edition of Science Film Festival from Jan 16

Goa will be hosting the third edition of the Science Film Festival of India between January 16-19. The festival, titled SCI-FFI Goa, is being organised by the state-based Vidnyan Parishad, Goa's Department of Science and Technology, the Entertainment Society of Goa and the Goa College of Art. Organisers said today that a highlight of the festival would be the Science Film Making Competition with two categories where films of a duration of five minutes and those above five minutes will be included. An organiser said that there would be cash prizes for the best film apart from awards for categories including Direction/Research Presentation, Cinematography, Editing and Design. Netflix announces 'Bright' sequel

Will Smith, Joel Edgerton and director David Ayer are expected to return for the sequel of "Bright". The movie, which also featured Noomi Rapace, premiered on December 22 last year but was panned by the critics. It is, however, the highest viewed film ever on the service in its first week of release and one of the biggest originals they have ever launched, according to Netflix.
