Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari says her next directorial "Panga" may be taking longer to complete but she is enjoying the process. Ashwiny, known for films such as "Nil Battey Sannata" and "Bareilly Ki Barfi", said the Kangana Ranaut-starrer is a project which is constantly testing her as a director. "Panga" revolves around a family that laughs, cries and dreams together. Kangana essays the role of a kabbadi player, along with an ensemble cast of Richa Chadha, Pankaj Tripathi and Neena Gupta, among others. "It's a long and big film. It is going to take its own sweet time to complete. It's also a big challenge for me as it's different. I am also learning new things every day to the extent of learning a little bit of kabaddi and breaking my leg. But it's also enjoyable," Ashwiny said in an interview. The "heartland" story format has become a favourite template for filmmakers but the director said there is nothing right or wrong about applying the same formula. Acting far less demanding than direction, says Nandita Das

Nandita Das says she enjoys both acting and direction, but being behind the camera gives her more creative fulfilment. The actor-filmmaker says direction helps her in highlighting her concerns and starting conversations on various socio-political issues. "It (acting) is less demanding than direction. But while direction is far more time consuming and challenging, it is also more fulfilling, both creatively and emotionally. But each has its merit and I feel no reason to choose as I would like to do both," Nandita told PTI in an interview. The critically-acclaimed director, who has helmed films like "Firaaq" and "Manto", said one should not be afraid to tell the stories they believe in. "For me, art remains a means to an end. I am more of a journey-person, so I don't feel the pressure of reaching anywhere in particular. That comes with the benefit of not being afraid of failure, at least in the conventional sense of the word. "If you have strong convictions and courage things ...

Pankaj Tripathi: Face of the powerless

Pankaj Tripathi is not obsessed with power. What interests him is giving faces to the unknown "colourful" people who are comfortable getting lost in the crowd. "I'm not interested in power. (I'm) Not hungry for it at all," Tripathi says in an interview with PTI. The actor had a breakthrough as the menacing butcher Sultan Qureshi in "Gangs of Wasseypur" and has since broken the mould and chronicled different lives on screen: a gentle teacher, a progressive father and a funny uncle. "People often give me powerful roles, but the joy of playing a powerless man is unmatched. Everyone is hungry for power. A husband, who is at a low post in an office's hierarchy, comes home and becomes the boss. There's power play even in love, between couples," he adds. Few look at the unassuming lot that does not crave for authority, the actor says. And Tripathi finds this space exciting. "I feel no one wants to accept powerless people. No one aspires to be that. Why can't we have people who don't want to .
