Maybe I do stand-up catharsis : Hannah Gadsby on writing after 'Nannette'

Australian comic Hannah Gatsby, who is currently on the world tour for her new show "Douglas", says it was hard to follow up the viral success of "Nannette" as she felt like she was living in the shadow of her own work. In her Netflix special, Gadsby challenged the very nature of stand up comedy by going beyond the tension and resolution (punchline) to introduce a third act in catharsis. Landing at a time when the #MeToo movement was at its peak, Gatsby's show hit a nerve with many as the comic shared personal stories trauma and pain as a queer woman. "Following that show was impossible. It was painful to write and painful to perform, but also enriching and healing in a lot of ways. But it's its own beast. And I thought about it plenty. I thought: 'I now live in the shadow of my own work'. But instead of approaching it like I must escape the shadow, I thought, 'How 'bout I just call it for what it is?' Richard Madden says he's done playing 'good guys'

Richard Madden says he does not want to confine himself to the "good guy" image. The actor, who shot to international fame as the fair and agreeable Rob Stark on "Game of Thrones", said from theatre to television, he has often played one-tone characters. Madden further cemented his position in showbiz with BBC series "Bodyguard", in which he plays morally torn David Budd in the eponymous role. "I'd like to explore things that are a bit not Romeo. I've spent 10 years playing different versions of Romeo, from Robb Stark to literally playing Romeo twice on stage, once when I was 21, once when I was 30. "I've played a lot of these good guys that bad things happen to, and 'Bodyguard' was my first real experience of this moral space that isn't so clean-cut as good guys and bad guys. I want to delve into that," he said while speaking to Amy Adams on Variety's "Actors on Actors". Series creator Jed Mercurio on Monday said he is in talks with the network for a second season of ...

"There are countries and regions around the world that have relaxed rules recently on the use of cannabis," noted Tokyo 2020 CEO Toshiro Muto. "The use of cannabis constitutes a violation of the law in Japan and that needs to be fully communicated," he added. Muto said the topic was raised by a member of the Tokyo 2020 executive board as something that should be transmitted to the heads of country teams when they visit Tokyo ahead of the Games. Cannabis rules in Japan are strict, with up to five years' prison for personal use and seven years for dealing. Cannabis is also listed as a performance-enhancing drug by the World Anti-Doping Agency. The US anti-doping agency USADA notes on its website that marijuana could "decrease anxiety and tension, resulting in better sport performance under pressure". "Due to the illegal ...
