Jake Gyllenhaal to star in 'The Guilty' remake

Actor Jake Gyllenhaal is set to play the lead in the remake of Danish feature "The Guilty". The original film, a suspense thriller, is the official entry of Denmark in the best foreign language film category of the upcoming Academy Awards. The movie had also bagged the world audience award at Sundance this year. The story follows a police officer under investigation who is demoted to desk-work at an emergency call centre. When he receives a terrified phone call from a kidnapped woman, he must battle his internal demons in order to save her. According to Variety, Gyllenhaal will also produce alongside Nine Stories co-founder Riva Marker, with Michel Litvak, Gary Michael Walters, David Litvak and Svetlana Metkina producing for Bold Films. Janelle Monae joins cast of Gloria Steinem biopic

Singer-actor Janelle Monae has boarded the cast of Gloria Steinem biopic, "The Glorias: A Life on the Road". Actor Julianne Moore is set to portray Steinem, who became a leading spokeswoman for the feminist movement in the 1960s and 1970s. Oscar winner Alicia Vikander will play the younger version of the character. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Monae, 33, will play the role of Dorothy Pitman Hughes, the women's and civil rights activist who co-founded Ms. Magazine with Steinem. Julie Taymor is directing the project for June Pictures. Sarah Ruhl has adapted Steinem's memoir for the big screen. Steinem will also serve as the executive producer on the project along with Amy Richards. June Pictures' Andrew Duncan and Alex Saks are producing with Taymor and Lynn Hendee.

Javier Bardem and Salma Hayek have joined the star-studded cast of the untitled family drama being directed by Sally Potter. Bardem, 49, and Hayek, 52, joins Chris Rock and Laura Linney in the project, which recently started shooting in Spain, reported Variety. Actor Elle Fanning, the star of films like "Maleficent" and "Neon Demon", will also feature in the film in a pivotal role. Jean-Marc Vallee to direct 'Gorilla And The Bird' for HBO

Director Jean-Marc Vallee has found his next project at HBO. The 55-year-old filmmaker is set to tackle limited series "Gorilla And The Bird" at the studio, reported Variety. This will be the third HBO project to be directed Vallee, who earlier helmed "Big Little Lies" and "Sharp Objects" for the studio. The series is based on Zack McDermott's memoir "Gorilla and the Bird: A Memoir of Madness and a Mother's Love".
