Eros Now inks content deal with China's iQIYI
Eros Now, the Indian OTT platform owned by Eros International has signed a content licensing deal with China's largest online video streaming service iQiyi.With this deal, according to a statement given by Eros, the Bollywood and regional language entertainment network has become the first South Asian OTT player to make inroads into the Chinese digital space, Variety reported.Indian films have seen huge popularity in Chinese theatres. Films like 'Dangal', 'Secret Superstar', and 'Hindi Medium' were a huge hit in the country.Till the end of 2017, iQiyi had about 500 million monthly active users and 126 million daily active users, consuming the content via their mobile phones.

Venice jury demands Ukrainian film director's release
The Venice film festival jury chair including Naomi Watts, actor-director Christoph Waltz, and director Guillermo Del Toro, has pleaded the Russian government to free jailed Ukranian director, Oleg Sentsov, who has been on a hunger strike.According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sentsov has been on hunger strike since May 14. The jury's request to the government was to not let the Ukranian Director die in prison.A Russian military court sentenced the director to 20 years in prison on charges of terrorism, which he denied. It is the 120th day of Sentsov's hunger strike.Following the appeal, European Film Academy and PEN America requested Russia for Sentsov's release.

Veteran singer Elton John paid a tribute to rapper Mac Miller during 'Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour'.On Saturday night, John dedicated a song "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" to Miller, reported toofab.Before paying the tribute, he said it was still unbelievable that the rapper who was only "26 years of age" "passed away" so soon. "Mac, wherever you are, I hope you're happy now," he added.Mac Miller who had collaborated with 'Maroon 5', singer Pharrell Williams, and even did a tour with rappers Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz, died of a possible drug overdose on September 7. His body was found at his California residence.
HC restrains networks from streaming online 'Seema Raja'
The Madras High Court Monday restrained private networks and broadband services from telecasting or streaming online Siva Karthikeyan starrer 'Seema Raja' that is scheduled to be released on September 13. Justice M Sundar passed interim orders on a civil suit from 24AM Studios Pvt Ltd, the movie's production company. The company said it has acquired all rights, including theatrical, music, TV, internet and digital. The rights were exclusive to the company, it said. It has the right to bring, extend or defend any proceedings related to infringement in respect of the film, the company said. The company alleged that various cable and internet services across the world were involved in activities of recording, reproducing audio songs and audio-visual clips, besides recording full cinematographic films that are screened in theatres and then copying or reproducing them through various mediums without being authorised by production houses, copyright and right holders. Noted writer Rita Jitendra dies during live show on Doordarshan's Kashmir show
It was an interview on her life but the end came suddenly for noted writer Rita Jitendra who collapsed while narrating her journey on a live TV show, leaving her friends and admirers in shock. This happened Monday morning when Rita Jitendra, an eminent educationist, was being interviewed on Doordarshan's 'Kashmir channel'. A renowned artist, writer and social activist, Rita Jitendra, who resides in Jammu, was a guest on 'Good Morning Kashmir' show. While narrating her journey as a writer, her voice suddenly choked and she collapsed. The hosts of the show appeared in shock when she fell back on the chair and started breathing heavily. She was rushed to SMHS Hospital where she was declared brought dead. Her body was flown to Jammu for last rites. Governor Satya Pal Malik expressed grief over the sad demise of Rita Jitendra. In a condolence message, he prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family.

Iran arrests theatre duo over Shakespeare trailer
Two leading theatre figures in Iran have been arrested over a trailer for Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" featuring men and women dancing together, a government official said Monday. Prominent director Maryam Kazemi and venue manager Saeed Asadi were detained on Sunday on the orders of the judiciary, said Shahram Karami of the ministry of culture and Islamic guidance, according to the semi-official news agency ISNA. The Baahubali actress said she has been sceptical of accepting offers to act in period films, but could not resist the Chiranjeevi starrer- 'Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy.'
